Altcoin market is gearing up for significant activity as $208.53 million worth of tokens will be unlocked and released across multiple altcoins in the next seven days. As is known, token unlocks have a significant impact on the market dynamics of the respective altcoins.
Near Protocol (NEAR)
Near Protocol is at the forefront of upcoming token unlocks with a release planned in the next five hours. Currently trading at $6.34 with a market cap of $7 billion, NEAR has 94.70% of its total supply in circulation.
The vesting program will contribute 0.03% of the supply, unlocking 254,683 NEAR. This release is part of a 48-month systematic unlocking process, where investors have already received 88.55% of the locked tokens. Currently, $726 million worth of supply remains locked, accounting for approximately 11.45% of the circulating supply. The last unlocking round is scheduled for October 12, 2025.
XPLA (XPLA)
For XPLA, which has a market cap of $77.16 million and is trading at $0.1244, a significant token unlock is planned in the next five hours. A total of 18.74 million XPLA will be released, adding 0.94% more to the circulating supply.
To date, 80.75% of the locked tokens have been unlocked. The final unlocking round for XPLA will occur on December 21, 2026.
MintLayer (ML)
Launched in March 2023, MintLayer has only 10.70% of its total supply in circulation. With a market cap of $9.67 million and trading at $0.15, the altcoin will see 1.12% of its total supply unlocked monthly until February 2025.
After February 2025, the vesting contract will release 0.35% of the locked supply monthly until December 2025. Currently, 17.51% of MintLayer’s total supply is locked for long-term vesting.
Other Altcoins with Token Unlocks
In addition to Near Protocol, XPLA, and MintLayer, other altcoins such as Safe (SAFE), Altlayer (ALT), Forgotten Playland (FP), SPACE ID (ID), and Bonfida (FIDA) will also experience token unlocks. A total of 26 altcoins will see token unlocks next week, releasing $208.53 million worth of tokens into circulation. Investors should closely monitor these developments as token unlocks can affect the prices and market conditions of the respective altcoins.
Historical data indicates two primary outcomes of token unlocks. Investors either sell tokens to take profits or reinvest in various protocols for yield rewards. Not all altcoins offer staking features that influence investor behavior. This often leads investors to sell newly released tokens, even at a loss, to invest in other promising altcoins. In most cases, these investors tend to sell tokens for profit as they bought them at lower prices during pre-launch or ICO rounds.
