Investors’ Concerns Over Feature Suspension

On September 9, US Western Texas District Court Judge Robert Pitman accepted the recommendation to dismiss the case. The judge noted that Bancor operates in Israel and Switzerland and lacks sufficient ties to the US.

Judge Robert Pitman stated, “Investors failed to provide sufficient evidence that cryptocurrency transactions occurred in the US.”

Investors argued that they were exposed to financial risks due to the suspension of Bancor’s impermanent loss protection feature introduced in 2020. Bancor was compensating its users with its native token BNT, but this program was halted in June 2022.

Liquidity providers who relied on this protection program suffered permanent losses when the program was suspended and filed a lawsuit against Bancor. Judge Pitman advised the plaintiffs to file their case in Israel or Switzerland.

Widespread Impact of Crypto Lawsuits

This case is one of many lawsuits filed by investors against service providers in the cryptocurrency market due to financial losses. Earlier this year, Canadian investors sued Binance for offering derivative products in the region without proper regulatory permissions.

Canadian investors claimed they were forced to buy unregistered securities and sought compensation. Binance also faced similar regulatory challenges in the US.

US investors filed a lawsuit alleging that Binance sold unregistered tokens that depreciated in value, leading to financial losses.

These lawsuits highlight investors’ efforts to seek compensation for losses in the cryptocurrency market and underline regulatory gaps. Given the volatility of the cryptocurrency market, investors find it challenging to rely on the assurances and protection measures provided by service providers.
