Jesse Pollak, the founder of the Layer 2 solution Base developed for Ethereum 
$2,525, announced his addition to the management team of Coinbase. He stated that he will continue his career in this new position.
Goals of the New Role
Pollak expressed that this new role would accelerate Coinbase’s goal of attracting a billion users and millions of developers to blockchain technology. The shared vision of Base and Coinbase Wallet aims to facilitate user entry into the on-chain world.
He emphasized that Base would remain committed to accessibility, decentralization, and open-source values. He added that at Coinbase, he would focus on the entire blockchain economy and adopt Base’s values in new and effective ways:
Base aims to be inclusive, provide a bridge, and uphold our core values of decentralization and open-source. Coinbase Wallet will continue to operate across the entire on-chain economy and we will further embody Base’s values.
Community Reactions
Pollak’s new role has been met with positive responses from Coinbase users and industry experts. Jacob Horne, founder of Zora, noted that the integration of Coinbase Wallet with Base would enhance the user experience. Another commenter, BOOMER, expressed satisfaction with Pollak’s new role, emphasizing the need for Coinbase to eliminate gas fees and prioritize security to boost adoption.
Pollak has joined Coinbase’s eight-member management team. In his previous roles, he led Coinbase’s consumer and retail engineering teams and contributed to the development of Coinbase Pro and Coinbase Wallet.
Recently, Coinbase launched an asset recovery system for Base. This new tool will enable users to recover approximately 4,000 ERC-20 tokens sent to the BNB Smart Chain and Polygon.
Since August 2023, Base has become the most widely used Ethereum Layer 2 solution, reaching 4 million active addresses that month. This collaboration between Coinbase and the Base team could contribute to the broader adoption of blockchain technology.
