The crypto prediction platform Polymarket has seen users engage in discussions about the alleged unveiling of Satoshi Nakamoto’s identity. On this platform, which allows predictions on various topics including the U.S. elections, the identity of Bitcoin’s pseudonymous creator has become a hot topic. A recent HBO announcement claimed that a forthcoming documentary would reveal this identity, prompting speculation among participants on Polymarket about who Nakamoto might actually be.

Leading Candidates in the Poll

Data from the Polygon-based platform indicates that a vast majority of predictors believe the documentary will identify American cryptographer Len Sassaman as the founder of Bitcoin $77,464. Recent statistics show that 51.5% of participants think Sassaman could have initiated the first cryptocurrency years ago.

Following Sassaman, deceased American software developer Hal Finney ranks second with 10.8%, while Adam Back, CEO of blockchain company Blockstream, comes in third with 7.7%. Additionally, candidates such as computer scientist Nick Szabo, former programmer and crime boss Paul Le Roux, and Australian businessman Craig Wright, who falsely claimed to be Satoshi, are also under consideration.

Impact of the Documentary and Expectations

Although the documentary is set to premiere on October 8, Polymarket data shows that 80% of participants believe Satoshi’s true identity will not be revealed until 2024. One predictor remarked, “Len Sassaman’s expertise in cryptography, which underpins Bitcoin, is crucial.”

A theory presented in 2021 suggested that Sassaman might be Satoshi, noting that the last communication from Sassaman occurred a few months before his death on July 3, 2011. Sassaman was also known to have worked closely with Hal Finney, who was the first person to acquire Bitcoin.

Earlier this week, filmmaker Cullen Hoback, recognized for the documentary series “Q: Into the Storm,” released a trailer for the new BTC documentary “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery,” which claims to reveal Satoshi’s identity.

Amid ongoing discussions regarding Satoshi Nakamoto’s true identity due to the documentary’s influence, Polymarket users have yet to confirm which candidate is Nakamoto. Aside from Wright, no alternative has been legally proven false.

Speculations regarding Satoshi’s identity continue to intrigue both experts in blockchain and cryptography, as well as the general public. The excitement remains to see if the individual revealed in the documentary will be one of the proposed alternatives. Given Nakamoto’s strong emphasis on privacy, little information about them is available, leading many researchers to believe that his true identity may remain elusive.
