Strategy, a leading institutional investor in the cryptocurrency sector, has made headlines once again with a significant purchase of roughly 3,273 BTC worth about 255 million dollars. With this latest acquisition, the United States-based firm’s total Bitcoin holdings have reached 818,334 BTC. Known not only for its bold crypto moves but also for its robust financial structure and sustainable dividend policy, Strategy continues to draw the attention and scrutiny of both supporters and critics with its determined approach toward Bitcoin.
Temporary pause in accumulation
Following this substantial acquisition, Strategy’s Chairman of the Board, Michael Saylor, announced a pause in their Bitcoin accumulation strategy for the week. Saylor’s statement, “No purchases this week,” reflected an official update from the company, hinting at a deliberate break ahead of the upcoming quarterly financial report.
The company’s most recent Bitcoin acquisition occurred between April 20 and 26, when it added 3,273 BTC to its portfolio at a cost of about 255 million dollars. The average purchase price was reported to be just below 78,000 dollars per Bitcoin.
Short-term price swings impact financial results
The total value of Strategy’s Bitcoin holdings fluctuates closely with BTC’s prevailing market price, largely due to the firm’s use of mark-to-market accounting practices. This means that all unrealized profits and losses on Bitcoin are reflected directly in the company’s financial reports, leading to pronounced volatility in quarterly figures.
Based on past data, analysts are expecting a per-share loss of approximately 19 dollars this quarter, which is higher than the loss recorded during the same period last year.
Analysts attribute this anticipated loss primarily to Bitcoin’s price volatility and its direct impact on Strategy’s financial statements, as required by accounting rules. However, they do not foresee any significant weakening in the company’s core operating performance.
Financial structure and sustainability in focus
Strategy’s financial structure has also been the subject of attention. Through its perpetual preferred security known as STRC, the firm offers a dividend yield of 11.5 percent. This high payout rate has prompted both investors and critics to question whether such returns are truly sustainable in the long term.
Critics such as Peter Schiff, known for his longstanding skepticism toward Bitcoin, argue that the sustainability of the company’s attractive yields depends on Bitcoin prices staying high. Schiff warned that pressures on the company could mount if market conditions change.
Some market commentators also caution that current cash reserves may not be sufficient to support dividend distributions indefinitely. In such a scenario, Strategy might have to issue more shares or sell assets, exposing the company to heightened risks should the Bitcoin market decline further.
Despite these risk factors, confidence in Strategy’s long-term Bitcoin strategy remains strong across the broader market. Most analysts continue to rate the company’s shares as a “strong buy.”
