BNB Smart Chain achieved a major leap in performance during 2025, following four major protocol upgrades that significantly improved transaction speed, reduced fees, and boosted network activity. Since its launch in 2020, the network had already been known for its low fees, but these recent enhancements have further strengthened that reputation.
Protocol upgrades slash speed and cost
The hard forks named Pascal, Lorentz, Maxwell, and Fermi were completed throughout 2025 without service interruption. As a result of these upgrades, block time dropped from 3 seconds to just 0.45 seconds, while transaction finality improved from 7.5 seconds to only 1.1 seconds.
According to figures released by BNB Chain, median transaction fees have now fallen below $0.01 per transaction after the latest upgrades.
During the same period, the gas processing capacity increased to 133 million gas per second. Validators also reduced the minimum gas price from 1 Gwei down to 0.05 Gwei. These faster and cheaper transactions have not only enhanced the user experience but also led to a spike in daily activity on the network.
In 2025, the daily transaction count on BNB Smart Chain hit an all-time high of 31 million. The network’s low-cost model, especially appealing in emerging markets, facilitated greater user onboarding and drove a remarkable surge in peer-to-peer stablecoin transfers.

The upgrades also supported BNB’s deflationary model. The BEP-95 mechanism, introduced in October 2021, removes roughly 10% of each gas fee from circulation in real-time. This means the more transactions occur, the more BNB tokens are burned.
During the 35th quarterly burn covering the first quarter of 2026, more than 1.57 million BNB tokens were removed from circulation, with a total value exceeding $1 billion.
Tokenized assets and stablecoins drive ecosystem growth
Expansion in the BNB Chain ecosystem was not limited to core network improvements. In October 2025, Ondo Global Markets—a company focused on real world assets—launched over 260 tokenized stocks and ETFs on BNB Chain, including popular offerings like SPY, NVDA, and TSLA. On the stablecoin front, USDT dominated supply, while USD1 climbed to second place. United Stables launched a BSC-native $U stablecoin in December 2025, supported by USDT, USDC, and USD1. Within weeks, the new token’s on-chain supply soared to $1 billion.
Elsewhere in the ecosystem, decentralized finance (DeFi) applications led overall activity. After embracing a multi-chain strategy, Uniswap took the lead in trading volume on BNB Smart Chain. Venus provided over $1.6 billion in lending liquidity, ListaDAO expanded in liquid staking, and platforms like PancakeSwap, GMGN.AI, and Four.meme sustained high individual user activity.
