Samsung plans to upgrade its Samsung Wallet application with stablecoin functionality, offering Galaxy device owners the ability to send and receive digital currencies alongside traditional payment and loyalty options. Stablecoin integration in Samsung Wallet

Samsung, a leading South Korean technology company best known for its Galaxy smartphones and electronics, announced the forthcoming arrival of stablecoin support for its Wallet app during the latest Galaxy Unpacked event. This initiative is part of the company’s broader plan to enhance digital financial services across its mobile platform.

Instead of introducing a new cryptocurrency-only application, Samsung will embed blockchain-powered stablecoin features directly into the current Wallet. This integration will allow Galaxy phone users to manage payments, loyalty rewards, identification, and digital assets from a single interface. Samsung intends for the Wallet to serve as an all-in-one hub for daily financial activity, blending established payment methods with digital currency management.

Key questions remain unanswered, including which blockchain networks and stablecoin assets Samsung will support. The company has not disclosed its technical partners for this upgrade, nor has it shared a detailed timeline for the implementation or the geographic regions included in the rollout. Still, the announcement underscores Samsung’s intent to deepen its investments in blockchain technology for everyday consumers.

Building on previous crypto partnerships

Last year, Samsung introduced Coinbase integration for its US-based Galaxy users, simplifying the purchase and storage of digital assets within Samsung Wallet. Coinbase is a major global cryptocurrency exchange known for its user-friendly platform and secure storage solutions.

The Coinbase partnership initially reached over 75 million US Galaxy owners, with both companies expressing plans to extend digital currency features to additional countries. Incentive campaigns helped boost adoption during the US rollout, as Samsung Wallet expanded its functionalities.

Samsung has also added traditional finance options to its Wallet, supporting a variety of payment methods, membership rewards, and digital identification. The introduction of the Galaxy Card enhanced this integrated financial ecosystem, positioning the Wallet as a multi-functional tool.

Samsung is transforming its Wallet into a unified financial platform where users can manage payments, rewards, identification, and stablecoins within one app, aiming to simplify digital finances for Galaxy device owners worldwide.

Corporate blockchain investments and focus

Samsung’s engagement with blockchain technology extends beyond consumer-facing products. In May, Samsung Securities, Samsung SDS, and Samsung Card invested in Dunamu, the South Korean company behind the Upbit crypto exchange, acquiring a four percent stake valued at approximately 612.8 billion won.

This investment aligns with ongoing regulatory developments in South Korea related to digital assets and stablecoins. Samsung Securities is exploring tokenized financial instruments and new crypto services in partnership with Dunamu, while Samsung Card is evaluating Korean won-pegged stablecoin payment solutions through its Monimo platform. Samsung SDS is leveraging its expertise in cloud computing and AI to support blockchain projects in this sector.

Although Samsung recently decided not to participate in the Open Standard OUSD stablecoin consortium, the company remains focused on advancing stablecoin features within its own ecosystem. Embedding stablecoin payments in Samsung Wallet marks a key step in realizing its long-term blockchain integration strategy for mobile devices.
