In Brief

Bitcoin has stabilized close to $65,000 as institutional demand and derivatives activity show signs of improvement, according to blockchain analytics firm Glassnode. However, the company cautions that the current recovery has yet to gain strong momentum due to lingering concerns about weak spot liquidity and limited on-chain participation.

Institutional activity bolsters Bitcoin market

Glassnode’s latest Market Pulse, released on August 10, highlights a period of relative stability for Bitcoin as taker demand increases. Taker demand, which refers to aggressive orders that buy or sell at the current market price, indicates greater willingness among traders to interact with available liquidity rather than waiting for more favorable conditions.

The report notes that downside hedging has eased in recent weeks, signaling that market participants are showing less appetite for protection against Bitcoin declines. While this marks a shift in trader sentiment, it does not guarantee a sustained upward move, as risk aversion in the spot market remains present.

Glassnode underlines that “taker demand reflects aggressive trading and can serve as a solid measure of positioning strength, offering more immediate insights than price movements alone.”

ETF inflows signal institutional demand

The Market Pulse outlines robust ETF net inflows, representing ongoing support from large investors. During the most recent week, net flows into spot Bitcoin ETFs reached $770.6 million, reinforcing institutional exposure to Bitcoin without the need to directly hold the asset.

Sustained inflows to these exchange-traded funds may help cushion available supply and support broader market demand if the trend persists. Glassnode referenced its July analysis, which also documented a return of institutional participants to the market, although conviction remains tentative and not yet widespread.

Mini dictionary: Glassnode is a blockchain analytics and data company specializing in on-chain and market metrics for cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. Its research is widely followed by professional traders and institutional participants for indicators of market sentiment.

Spot market remains sluggish

Despite positive inflows from institutional channels and improved derivatives indicators, the spot market continues to lag. Glassnode points to thin liquidity and muted on-chain activity as key factors restraining a more decisive Bitcoin rally. Under these conditions, even modest buy or sell orders can significantly impact price direction, leading to volatility.

On-chain participation remains subdued, which suggests retail investors and smaller market players have yet to re-engage in larger numbers. Historically, sustainable Bitcoin advances require increased transaction volumes, strong capital inflows, and higher spot market participation to confirm upward movement.

Outlook: Recovery remains uncertain

Glassnode concludes that the setup for Bitcoin’s current position at $65,000 is constructive yet incomplete. The firm notes that meaningful improvement would require confirmation from spot market demand and broader network participation. If ETF inflows remain strong and traders continue to show risk appetite, the market could develop a more solid base. Conversely, if institutional interest fades or defensive positions re-emerge, the likelihood of a robust recovery may weaken.

Both traders and long-term holders are advised to track ETF flows and on-chain signals, as the evolution of demand dynamics will likely determine whether Bitcoin can sustain or extend its recent gains.

Glassnode points out that, “the next phase will depend on whether broad market demand reaches the underlying spot market or remains concentrated in ETFs and derivatives products.”
