Bitcoin continues to trade in a tight range near $64,000, with both volatility and trading volumes shrinking as traders brace for a potential breakout in either direction. Technical analysts have their attention on upcoming price levels that could determine whether Bitcoin rebounds or extends its recent weakness.

Bollinger Band squeeze signals potential for sharp move

The cryptocurrency is currently confined within one of its narrowest daily trading ranges in recent months. Bollinger Bands on the daily chart have contracted, reflecting a period of reduced volatility. According to Ted Pillows, a crypto analyst known for his technical charting, this kind of compression often precedes a more significant price move, though it does not predict which way Bitcoin will break.

On the latest price chart, Bitcoin stands near $64,592. This places the coin just above the midpoint of the 20-day Bollinger Band at about $63,775, and slightly below the upper band at $65,125. The lower band is set near $62,425, confining Bitcoin’s price between these boundary lines.

Ted Pillows emphasized that, in the context of technical analysis, compressed Bollinger Bands illustrate a decline in recent price volatility. Such a squeeze can set the stage for a larger market move in the near term.

For a bullish scenario, Bitcoin’s price would first need to push past the upper end of the current consolidation zone and build momentum in the mid-$60,000 area. Ted Pillows identifies the $70,000 to $72,000 range as a critical resistance level for any sustained upward move. Reclaiming and holding above this range would indicate returning strength from buyers following losses seen from May highs.

Failure to break through this resistance keeps the bearish outlook in view. If Bitcoin drops back toward the 20-day Bollinger midpoint at $63,775 and decisively falls below this level, traders could focus on the lower band around $62,425, with the risk of revisiting the July lows near $60,000.

Bollinger Band compression does not guarantee direction, but a sharp breakout can follow long periods of low volatility. The $70,000–$72,000 area remains the crucial zone to watch for a decisive move.

Mini dictionary: Bollinger Bands, a technical analysis tool that measures volatility, are set by plotting bands above and below a moving average. When these bands contract, it suggests reduced price fluctuations and potential for a significant move once volatility returns.

LevelPriceImplication if breached
Upper Band$65,125Bullish breakout potential
Midpoint$63,775Loss here signals possible weakness
Lower Band$62,425Price likely to revisit July lows
Upside Target$70,000–$72,000Key resistance zone for sustained rally
Downside Target$60,000–$61,000Area of major liquidity and support

Traders target next moves as liquidity pools below $62,000 attract attention

In addition to the wide technical analysis, individual traders are lining up short positions, targeting lower support zones in anticipation of further downside movement. One prominent trader, known as az, has highlighted his ongoing short strategy on Bitcoin, citing price weakness after recent failed attempts at higher resistance.

az expects Bitcoin to first move down toward the $63,800 region. He plans to evaluate price action at this level and adjust his stop-loss accordingly if the target is reached.

Recent charts shared by az show Bitcoin being rejected from a range slightly above current prices, marked as a strategic area for entering short trades. This zone also reflects a sweep of equal highs, followed by a downward move, which the trader expects to continue.

az believes price action might remain choppy on shorter timeframes before moving lower. According to his analysis, there is a likelihood of Bitcoin falling toward the $60,000 to $61,000 area, as significant liquidity has been pooling below $62,000. This liquidity represents stop-losses or support orders, which are often targeted during sharp moves as market participants reposition.

The next key area is $63,800; after that, price could hunt liquidity in the $60,000–$61,000 range if weakness persists. Traders are closely watching these levels for new trade setups in $BTC.

For now, the $63,800 mark serves as the immediate level to monitor, after which attention will turn to whether Bitcoin can maintain support or extend losses toward the deeper $60,000–$61,000 targets.
