Nikita Bier, current head of product at X, recently addressed speculation about the platform’s plans for cryptocurrency integration. Responding to a user’s question about shadow banning crypto accounts, Bier clarified that the company is actively working on new features tailored for digital asset traders.
Crypto trading features on X
Bier stated that he personally built Cashtags, a tool allowing X users to embed price charts for cryptocurrencies such as Solana and Ethereum directly within posts. He further revealed that users will soon be able to access trade buttons, which would enable buying and selling digital assets directly through the social media platform.
“I literally built Cashtags, allowing people to add Solana and Ethereum charts directly into posts—with trade buttons coming soon. You can even paste contract addresses for newly minted tokens. There wasn’t a single feature on X for crypto traders.”
Cashtags aim to streamline digital asset monitoring and trading, enhancing the user experience for cryptocurrency enthusiasts on X.
Mini dictionary: Cashtags, a feature developed by X, enables users to display real-time price charts and data for financial assets, including cryptocurrencies, by simply typing the asset’s ticker symbol with a dollar sign (e.g., $ETH, $SOL). The integration allows users to engage with price information and, soon, directly access trading functions within posts.
Potential impact on crypto adoption
X hosts hundreds of millions of active users worldwide. Industry observers believe that rolling out cryptocurrency trading to this audience could drive substantial growth in digital asset adoption. Elon Musk, owner of X, has openly expressed his ambition for the platform to become an “everything app,” incorporating a wide range of features beyond social networking.
X is also said to be expanding its payments infrastructure. While the company has not yet confirmed the inclusion of cryptocurrencies in future payment updates, speculation remains high. Musk has previously allowed crypto payments for goods and services at his other companies, including Tesla and SpaceX. He has regularly shown support for Dogecoin (DOGE) and mentioned on various occasions his interest in digital currencies as a means of payment.
Outlook for cryptocurrency markets
Industry participants suggest that introducing both cryptocurrency payments and trading options on X has the potential to bring a significant influx of new users to the crypto ecosystem. Some analysts believe that such a move could generate renewed optimism and possibly trigger a bullish phase for digital assets. However, as of now, no official launch dates have been set for these features on X.
