Bitcoin is facing renewed selling pressure after encountering significant resistance at $82,500, according to analyst Crypto Patel. The world’s largest cryptocurrency, by market capitalization, has been fluctuating within a crucial price range while traders monitor support and resistance levels for cues on its next major move.

Bitcoin under pressure near key resistance

At the time of reporting, Bitcoin was trading at $78,460, reflecting a 1.61% decline over the past 24 hours. Its 24-hour trading volume reached approximately $27.87 billion, with a market capitalization of about $1.57 trillion.

On September 8, 2026, Crypto Patel observed that Bitcoin had been rejected at the $82,500 resistance area. He emphasized that unless Bitcoin could break decisively above the $83,000 level and secure a strong daily close, its broader trend would likely remain bearish.

Crypto Patel cautioned that a failure to overcome $83,000 could maintain the bearish outlook, but a successful daily close above this resistance would potentially shift market sentiment and offer an opportunity for a move higher.

Price action remains fragile in the $83,000 area. A breakout above this threshold could erode bearish technical dynamics and open up the possibility for a recovery phase.

Downside targets and technical support levels

Crypto Patel outlined that in the event of a sustained bearish trend, Bitcoin could test support at $68,000, $62,000, and $57,700, with $50,000 as a potential target if critical supports are breached. He noted these are technical projections that may shift rapidly with evolving market sentiment.

Despite the recent setback, Bitcoin is currently trading above key exponential moving averages (EMAs). The 20-day EMA sits at $76,889, with the 50-day EMA at $72,277, the 100-day EMA at $70,382, and the 200-day EMA at $72,762.

20-day76,889
50-day72,277
100-day70,382
200-day72,762

Holding above these EMAs could give support to the bulls and allow another attempt at the $82,500–$83,000 resistance. Conversely, a move below the 20-day EMA may signal further correction and bring lower support levels into focus.

If Bitcoin falls toward the 50-day or longer-term EMAs, analysts believe the likelihood of steeper declines increases, potentially intensifying bearish momentum for the market.

Strength indicators and potential scenarios

The Relative Strength Index (RSI) for Bitcoin, calculated over a 14-day period, is currently at 59.97. This suggests buyers retain some control, though momentum has softened compared to earlier periods. The RSI is trading below its signal average of 69.51. A move above 60 could indicate renewed buying strength for a fresh push toward resistance areas.

Technical signals, such as the interplay between the RSI, EMA levels, and resistance around $83,000, are being closely watched by traders for directional clues.

Bitcoin remains the largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, making any major correction in its price likely to trigger selling pressure across the broader crypto market.

If Bitcoin can reclaim $83,000 on a daily closing basis, this would likely tilt the technical outlook more favorably for bulls. Otherwise, market participants are monitoring whether the $82,500–$83,000 area will stay as resistance or convert to a new support level.

For now, Bitcoin appears poised to trade within the $76,000–$83,000 range. Sustaining above the 20-day EMA offers buyers an opportunity to retest resistance, while a break below this support may increase the chances of further declines. Crypto Patel identified $83,000 as the main invalidation level for any bullish scenario. Until a decisive breakout occurs, Bitcoin remains caught between two strong opposing forces.
