Ethereum experienced renewed sell-off pressure after retreating from recent highs, but analysts maintain a positive outlook as long as ETH remains above the crucial breakout region. At the time of reporting, Ethereum trades at $2,478.34, recording a 24-hour trading volume of $15.22 billion and a market capitalization of $301.50 billion. The price has slipped by 2.23% over the past 24 hours, mirroring market-wide short-term volatility.

Analysts highlight key technical levels

Despite the recent decline, technical analysts are paying close attention to the $2,300 to $2,400 range, an area that previously acted as significant resistance for ETH. The coin is currently holding above this level, which many view as a pivotal support zone following Ethereum’s earlier breakout.

Wealthmanager, a well-followed crypto analyst, emphasized an important difference between Ethereum and Bitcoin, noting that while Bitcoin has struggled below its higher time-frame resistance of $82,000 to $83,000, Ethereum has managed to push above its $2,300 to $2,400 resistance levels.

Wealthmanager stated that Ethereum is more likely to reach $3,000 before revisiting the $2,300 zone, adding that holding the breakout area as support could create momentum for the next upward move. However, these projections represent market opinions and are not guaranteed outcomes.

Maintaining values above this former resistance zone could drive further gains, but any breakdown risks a return to the lower support area, according to several market observers.

Market structure and technical indicators

The mid-range price action is also attracting attention from traders. Daan Crypto Trades, another analyst, highlighted that ETH has retraced to its recent breakout zone after a surge in price, and noted a sharp decrease in open interest in perpetual futures contracts linked to ETH. Lower open interest often signals that leveraged traders have exited crowded positions, potentially reducing volatility from sudden market swings.

Ethereum currently hovers near the mid Bollinger Band at $2,470.30, with the upper band at $2,543.74 and the lower band at $2,396.86. The positioning around the mid-band suggests a balanced trend following recent movements.

Bollinger Band (Lower)$2,396.86Support
MACD Line81.69Below Signal Line
Signal Line99.70–
MACD Histogram-18.01–

The MACD indicator shows the line at 81.69, beneath the signal level of 99.70, while the histogram sits at -18.01. This setup implies that ETH may continue to face downside pressure until momentum indicators shift more positively.

Key zones and outlook

With $2,300 to $2,400 now emerging as a vital support band, analysts suggest that holding above this range would signal strength among buyers and could pave the way for a move toward $2,500 and, potentially, the $3,000 mark. A decisive breach above $2,543, just under the current upper Bollinger Band, may bring renewed interest from bulls and reinforce Wealthmanager’s $3,000 price target.

On the other hand, if ETH loses its grip on the breakout area, traders may expect deeper consolidation or price retracement into lower support zones. Such volatility is not uncommon in major digital assets, especially with ongoing shifts in market sentiment and leverage.

The next sessions will be critical in determining whether Ethereum can defend its breakout and sustain upward momentum, or if further retracements will set the stage for an extended period of consolidation.

Mini dictionary: Bollinger Bands, a technical analysis tool, identify volatility and potential price ranges by plotting bands above and below a moving average. The distance between the bands reflects market volatility, which traders use to identify overbought or oversold conditions.

For now, market participants are watching the $2,400 region and monitoring momentum indicators. ETH’s movement relative to these technical levels will likely dictate the direction of its next major trend.

If Ethereum sustains above the breakout, it could trigger the next upward phase. Losing this footing may return ETH to further consolidation, underscoring the importance of the $2,300-$2,400 zone for near-term price action.
