Bitcoin surged to $85,000 on Monday, marking its highest level in eight months and signaling renewed optimism among traders about the cryptocurrency’s ongoing recovery.
ETF flows provide mixed signals as volatility returns
Last week, US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) witnessed sharply fluctuating flows. Data from Farside Investors indicates that net inflows reached $6.1 million between September 14 and September 18. While the headline figure appeared modest, underlying daily swings pointed to significant demand volatility.
Funds received $159.9 million in inflows on Monday. However, sentiment quickly shifted, leading to combined outflows of $746.3 million on Tuesday and Wednesday as investors withdrew $450.4 million and $295.9 million, respectively.
Demand returned in the second half of the week, as Thursday brought $159.5 million in new ETF investments. On Friday, enthusiasm strengthened further when inflows rose to $433 million—the week’s highest daily figure.
Fidelity’s FBTC contributed $310.7 million of Friday’s inflows, while BlackRock’s IBIT added $108.4 million, according to Farside’s report.
These developments have refocused attention on whether sustained ETF buying will accompany Bitcoin’s efforts to consolidate above $85,000. Still, with the week’s net gain remaining small compared to the daily swings, analysts remain cautious about drawing long-term conclusions from recent data.
Fidelity FBTC and BlackRock IBIT played leading roles in Friday’s ETF inflows, reflecting renewed investor enthusiasm after days of outflows. The week’s wild swings highlight how quickly sentiment can shift in the current Bitcoin environment.

Technical outlook: Major resistance and psychological milestones ahead
Bitcoin’s approach to $85,000 sets the stage for a critical test of whether buyers can defend this key price level. Short-lived breaches above resistance sometimes attract short-term momentum traders, but technical analysts will be watching for a daily closing price above $85,000 to confirm strength.
Trading volume continues to be a focal point. Data from CoinGlass shows that Bitcoin’s futures trading volume jumped by over 60% in the last 24 hours, totaling $78.6 billion.
Holding above $85,000 would mark the level as new support, while a fall back toward $80,000 could suggest sellers have used the recent rally to lock in profits. $80,000, where Bitcoin traded last week, stands as the next key reference point on the downside.
On the upside, the $90,000 threshold now emerges as a major psychological target. If momentum persists and ETF demand stays robust, market participants will likely set their sights on $100,000, although intermediate resistance between these levels must be overcome first.
Short-term technical indicators tell a bullish story. Bitcoin’s relative strength index (RSI) has reached 70, signaling overbought conditions in the daily timeframe, while the MACD lines remain firmly in positive territory.
Momentum signals such as a high RSI and strong trading volumes suggest that bullish sentiment could keep pushing Bitcoin higher if demand persists above recent resistance.
Traders weigh sustainability of latest breakout
Having reached its highest point in months, Bitcoin now faces the challenge of sustaining this milestone. Market participants are watching for a decisive close above $85,000 and further ETF inflows as signs that the rally may continue.
Any move back below $80,000 would raise concerns that the latest advance lacks enough support for a durable uptrend. Analysts note that the upcoming daily closes and next week’s ETF flow figures will be crucial in clarifying whether this recovery has momentum or marks a temporary reversal.
As the spotlight remains on both price action and ETF activity, traders will be looking for confirmation before considering the next major targets in Bitcoin’s ongoing rally.
