Muted profits during strong breakout

The adjusted Spent Output Profit Ratio (aSOPR), a metric used to gauge whether coins spent on-chain are being sold at a gain or a loss, currently stands near 1.01 for Bitcoin. This level is only marginally above the neutral mark of 1, suggesting that holders are selling with minimal gains and the bulk of profits remain unrealized.

According to Bitfinex, the latest reading contrasts with previous periods of strong upward momentum. During the August rally, the aSOPR climbed as high as 1.04, reflecting much more widespread profit-taking from investors. This time, despite the magnitude of the price increase, realized profits have not kept pace.

Bitfinex pointed out,

“There is barely any selling to absorb,” referencing the notably light profit-taking activity even as Bitcoin powers higher.

Technical signals and key levels

Bitcoin’s recent price action signals a major turnaround from the midsummer correction, when prices briefly fell below $58,000 in early July. The digital asset has since rebounded, surpassing $86,000 and recording its highest price since January.

This rise resulted in Bitcoin closing the week ending September 20 at $81,159, marking its first weekly finish above the 50-week moving average of $78,786 in 45 weeks. The last time Bitcoin maintained a weekly close above this closely monitored technical level was in November 2025.

Bitcoin’s latest advance has so far encountered less on-chain distribution than its prior August surge, indicating fewer investors are selling into this move.

Market monitoring and new trading tools

In rapidly moving markets, where a shift in Fed policy or an unexpected altcoin listing can immediately alter price trajectories, managing trading strategies across separate platforms for charts, news, and portfolio tracking can add unnecessary risk. As a result, a growing number of traders are turning to privacy-centric solutions like CryptoAppsy, which allows them to consolidate real-time charts, news, market alerts, and macroeconomic data in one place, even without registering for an account.

The current environment raises questions about whether Bitcoin’s restrained profit-taking will continue if prices establish new highs. Close monitoring of on-chain metrics remains crucial as market momentum builds.
