A prominent member of the Shiba Inu community, Mazrael, recently raised concerns about a growing number of tokens on Ethereum using the TREAT ticker. In a conversation on X, Mazrael revealed that more than 366 different tokens with the TREAT name exist solely on the Ethereum network.
Scam Risks and Contract Confusion
Mazrael emphasized the risks associated with token identification based only on tickers, following concerns shared by X user BAPA-Fortuna about duplicate TREAT-named tokens. BAPA-Fortuna pointed out that two tokens on the Ethereum blockchain currently use the TREAT name and ticker.
The official TREAT token, which is part of the Shiba Inu ecosystem, is deployed on both Ethereum and the Shibarium layer-2 network. Mazrael provided the official contract addresses for users to compare, clarifying that another Ethereum token using the same ticker, dating back to January 13, 2023, is unrelated to Shiba Inu.
If anyone is saying there are two tokens with that ticker, it’s low-key an ad for scammers. There are 366 tokens on ETH alone with the TREAT-named ticker.
Mazrael strongly urged users to verify each token’s contract address and cautioned the community not to rely on ticker names alone when identifying assets. He warned that confusion around tickers exposes investors to scam risks.
Mini dictionary: Shibarium, a layer-2 blockchain developed by the Shiba Inu team, aims to provide faster transactions and lower fees on top of the Ethereum network and supports projects within the Shiba Inu ecosystem.
| TREAT Token | Network | Association | Date Deployed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Official TREAT | Ethereum, Shibarium | Shiba Inu ecosystem | 2024 |
| Duplicate TREAT | Ethereum | No link to Shiba Inu | January 13, 2023 |
Shibarium Integrates x402 for Payments
In parallel to these warnings, Shibarium upgraded its infrastructure with the integration of x402, an open standard for internet-native payments. Mazrael informed the community that x402 is now live on Shibarium, enabling efficient payment solutions for clients and servers.
x402 facilitates instant, low-cost payments and targets use cases like API monetization, agent-driven online commerce, paywalled content, and digital services where conventional payment systems can be sluggish or costly.
Mini dictionary: x402 is a protocol that enables programmable payments between automated agents, such as AI-powered clients, and digital service providers. It supports a range of transaction types, including subscriptions and microtransactions, focusing on automation and interoperability across blockchains.
Mazrael detailed that Permit2, the x402 proxy, and SignatureValidator are now available at the same canonical addresses as on Ethereum, Base, and Polygon. He highlighted that any x402 client can function on chain 109 without custom code, and most facilitators exclusively support USDC via EIP-3009, while Permit2 covers all ERC-20 tokens.
He also confirmed that AI agents connected to Shibarium can make payments using SHIB, TREAT, or wrapped BONE tokens.
