XRP fell sharply this week, dropping below the $1.40 threshold that buyers had struggled to protect, and signaling heightened risk of further declines towards $1.28. The latest retreat came amid a larger wave of selling across the cryptocurrency market, pressured by persistent macroeconomic concerns and a downturn in risk appetite.
XRP slips through multiple support levels
The sell-off began after XRP retreated from $1.50 on October 7, falling as low as $1.32 before partially rebounding to $1.38 on early Friday. However, the recovery failed to reverse technical losses. The token broke through several previous support levels at $1.45, $1.40, and $1.37, which are now likely to serve as resistance points for any rebound attempts.
The pace of the decline has reshaped the near-term outlook for XRP. After closing around $1.42 on October 7 with a 5% drop, the token’s quick slide signaled continued pressure from sellers.
XRP’s “path of least resistance remains downward,” according to John Isige of FXStreet, who pointed to bearish technical momentum and growing exchange reserves. Binance’s XRP balances have reportedly increased to about 2.64 billion tokens, raising concerns about potential additional selling pressure.
Broader market factors have compounded these challenges. Alongside XRP’s decline, Bitcoin dropped below $83,000, while Brent crude closed above $104 and US Treasury yields remained elevated, together reducing appetite for risk assets across markets.
ETF inflows fail to stem selling, Evernorth Nasdaq debut delayed
Despite the persistent drawback in price, institutional interest in XRP has continued. On October 6, US spot XRP ETFs registered $3.14 million in net inflows, raising total inflows to nearly $1.79 billion. Nevertheless, these funds proved insufficient to offset the current wave of short-term selling.
Meanwhile, market participants had been anticipating Evernorth Holdings’ public listing under the XRPN ticker on Nasdaq as a potential catalyst. However, the listing, initially slated for October 8, was postponed to around October 12 due to administrative reasons. Evernorth expects to complete its merger with Armada Acquisition Corp. II by October 9, and projects holding about 473 million XRP tokens at closing. The delay removes a short-term event that had been closely watched in an already unstable environment.
Institutional vehicles continue to accumulate exposure, while the spot market persists in weakness, highlighting a growing divergence in investor behavior.
Bears eye $1.28, technical signals mixed
The immediate level to watch is $1.33, where buyers could mount a defense. Technical analysts are monitoring a cluster of support zones between approximately $1.27 and $1.30, with $1.28 standing out as a critical target if bearish momentum continues.
EGRAG Crypto highlighted that a daily close above $1.4850 would increase the chances of the breakdown being a temporary “fakeout,” while identifying the $1.32-$1.27 range as the main downside risk zone at present.
Some analysts see room for a short-term rally due to oversold momentum. Cryptoinsightuk emphasized that deeply oversold four-hour momentum could open an opportunity for an upward move, targeting the area above $1.30 as a possible accumulation region. However, they cautioned that technical oversold conditions alone are not a guarantee of a market bottom, and warned that a move down to $1.22 could materialize if support fails.
