Bitcoin is currently trading at $82,529.31 after declining nearly 4% over the past week. The price correction follows a 7% drop from recent highs, with on-chain analytics firm CryptoQuant attributing the weakness to significant U.S. government Bitcoin transfers and large unrealized profits among holders.

Government Bitcoin transfers intensify pressure

CryptoQuant reported that U.S. government-tracked Bitcoin holdings fell by 17,468 BTC since October 6, bringing the total balance to 174,481 BTC. The transfers—valued at approximately $1.44 billion—included daily moves of 569 BTC, 4,632 BTC, and 12,267 BTC over a three-day span. While it’s unclear whether these coins were sold immediately, the transfers coincided with Bitcoin’s recent pullback.

US government Bitcoin transfers have drawn heightened attention due to their potential market impact. Although no direct evidence confirms that all moved coins entered the market, elevated government activity has tended to unsettle investors during recent rallies.

CryptoQuant identified another source of vulnerability: elevated unrealized profits held by investors. As these profits accumulate, periods of price weakness often tempt holders to take gains, which can intensify downtrends if demand fails to offset the increased supply.

CryptoQuant observed that, “US government BTC transfers sparked the pullback, but the market was already vulnerable due to elevated unrealized profits.”

Short-term holders also contributed to selling pressure, sending 45,600 BTC to exchanges within a single day. Of that total, 29,100 BTC were moved at a loss—the largest such loss-side transfer since June, reflecting increased stress among recent buyers.

Exchange deposits do not guarantee immediate sales but often signal an increased likelihood that holders are preparing to reduce exposure.

Key support and resistance levels come into focus

CryptoQuant highlighted $74,600 as the critical realized price for short-term holders—a level representing the average cost basis of Bitcoin acquired by recent investors. Maintaining the price above this point signals underlying bull-market momentum, while a clear break below could open the door to steeper corrections.

Technical analyst Dami-Defi pointed to $82,500 as “the immediate decision point,” noting that this level coincides with a previous May high and now acts as short-term support. Bitcoin recently reached a high of $86,996 before slipping back toward $82,416, according to Dami-Defi’s analysis.

$76,500Potential lower support
$74,600Key threshold for short-term holders

A weekly close below $82,500 could see Bitcoin test the $76,500 and $74,000 areas. These levels are often used by traders to assess near-term risk, rather than as precise price targets.

Momentum indicators show a mixed picture. Dami-Defi put Bitcoin’s weekly Relative Strength Index at 57.77, indicating a mildly bullish tilt, while the MACD histogram remains positive despite losing some momentum.

Dami-Defi commented, “BTC’s weekly recovery is testing overhead supply, with the current candle pulling back to $82,416 after reaching $86,996. The immediate decision point is roughly $82,500.”

Analyst Lennaert Snyder identified several resistance zones following over $1 billion in long liquidations. He flagged potential hurdles at $84,000, $85,000, $87,400, and $90,000, and said a sharp recovery after a dip below $80,000 could be a new opportunity for traders.

With government activity and investor profits weighing on sentiment, the near-term outlook for Bitcoin hinges on support at $82,500 and, crucially, the $74,600 level for short-term holders.
