Strategy, a leading business intelligence firm known for its aggressive cryptocurrency investments, made its smallest Bitcoin purchase of 2026, acquiring 250 BTC between October 5 and October 11. The company paid an average of $86,194 per coin, approximately $3,000 above market value at the time of the announcement.
Bitcoin Purchases and Treasury Growth
With this latest purchase, Strategy has increased the size of its Bitcoin treasury to more than 4% of the asset’s maximum supply of 21 million coins. The company has now allocated about $64 billion to acquiring Bitcoin, at an average cost of $75,444 per coin.
The company’s most recent transaction follows a previous buy on October 5, when it added 334 BTC to its holdings at a cost of $28.7 million and an average price of $85,839 per coin.
Funding for the new acquisition primarily came from the sale of 125,183 shares of MSTR common stock, which brought in $21 million. In addition, $500,000 was sourced from available company cash.
Strategy accelerated its BTC accumulation, reaching over 4% of the cryptocurrency’s total possible supply and further cementing its status as a corporate leader in digital asset holdings.
Strategy Repurchases $192M in STRC Preferred Stock
In a parallel move, Strategy repurchased roughly 1.9 million shares of its STRC preferred stock, spending $192.4 million over the same reporting period. This amount is nearly nine times greater than what it allocated to Bitcoin purchases during the week.
STRC is the company’s preferred stock designed to provide investors with allocated dividends while supporting Strategy’s overall digital asset financing strategy.
By buying back preferred shares, Strategy aims to reduce future dividend payouts, particularly when those shares trade under face value. This move also helps manage the company’s cost of capital and enhance returns for remaining shareholders.
Strategy increasingly relies on a dual approach of accumulating Bitcoin and repurchasing preferred stock as it seeks to balance its borrowing costs and optimize capital deployment.
Mini dictionary: STRC preferred stock – A type of equity security that offers fixed dividends and prioritized claims over common stock in the event of liquidation, commonly used by companies to manage capital structures and dividend payouts.
Liquidity Position and Market Context
At present, Strategy holds a combined $5.5 billion in liquid reserves, separated into $4.88 billion in a designated USD Reserve and $640.5 million in USD Cash. These pools are used for different corporate needs, including servicing financial obligations and supporting future capital deployments.
| Reserve Type | Amount (USD) |
|---|---|
| USD Reserve | $4.88 billion |
| USD Cash | $640.5 million |
| Total Liquid Holdings | $5.5 billion |
This capital allocation comes during a period when Bitcoin’s price remains below its peak reached in October 2025, drawing increased scrutiny over the exposure of corporate treasuries to digital assets and the performance of companies with significant holdings.
Bitcoin’s position below its 2025 high has intensified market focus on corporate investment strategies and the financial management of firms heavily exposed to the crypto sector.
