Solana Foundation postponed its Accelerate event in Shanghai after pre-registration numbers far surpassed the limit set by local authorities, according to Solana Foundation President Lily Liu.
Registration Surges Prompt Postponement
Lily Liu stated that event registrations quadrupled overnight following widespread publicity. In a post on X, she emphasized that the organizers decided to postpone the event to ensure compliance with local regulations. The foundation took immediate action after realizing the registration figures would breach the maximum attendance allowed by city officials.
Reports from X users emerged on Friday, describing scenes of law enforcement officers present at the venue and indicating that the event was “abruptly suspended” as a result. Participants arriving at the scheduled location found entry and activities halted amid the mounting presence of authorities.
A similar situation occurred in October 2025, when a Solana event in Shenzhen had to be cut short due to capacity concerns and public safety requirements, as confirmed by Solana’s Chinese-language community account at the time.
Four-City Accelerate China Tour Interrupted
Shanghai was initially set to launch Solana’s four-city Accelerate China tour, with subsequent events scheduled for Hangzhou, Shenzhen, and Beijing in the following days. The abrupt postponement disrupted the planned schedule, putting other legs of the tour in question as organizers began reassessing in light of capacity guidelines and local restrictions.
Earlier in the week, Solana executives had promoted the unveiling of a new Shanghai office, signaling the foundation’s expanding commitment to China. This announcement generated substantial interest among the local crypto community, contributing to the spike in registrations for the Shanghai event.
Regulatory Environment Remains Restrictive
China maintains strict bans on a variety of crypto-related activities. The legal framework prohibits token fundraising, cryptocurrency trading, and mining operations. In February, the People’s Bank of China and seven other regulatory agencies published a notice reaffirming these prohibitions and introducing additional restrictions, including a ban on the unauthorized issuance of yuan-pegged stablecoins.

As tight local rules continue to pose challenges for crypto projects, industry events must closely monitor registration trends, venue capacities, and investor interest. In the meme token market, an internet trend can transform into millions of dollars of interest within days. According to data shared by Fomo App, a trade involving “Niu Lai”—which turned an initial $99 investment into approximately $370,000, stands out as a striking example of this activity. In this market, tracking not only prices but also the timing and token choices of investors is crucial. Fomo App brings token discovery and trading together on a single platform, featuring social feeds, investor rankings, and trade notifications.
