Volumes of real-world asset (RWA) perpetual futures are surging across the crypto sector, with weekly trading on decentralized markets rising from $22.8 billion to $39.8 billion since the end of August. This jump represents growth of 74.7% over seven weeks, as more platforms join the expanding marketplace and new providers challenge established leaders.
New players reshape market share
TradeXYZ, one of the prominent decentralized RWA futures providers, recorded $12.73 billion in trading volume last week. However, the platform has been losing ground to Variational, which has seen its share of RWA perpetual futures expand from 10.6% to 32% since early September. This shift reflects rising competition in the space, as traders move assets to platforms offering different incentives and market exposure.
On-chain RWA perpetual futures trading is also becoming a significant use case for decentralized markets, allowing access to non-crypto assets such as stocks and commodities via blockchain networks. Ripple, a blockchain-based payment protocol and technology company, recently launched its own on-chain RWA perpetual futures swaps, increasing the diversity of available products in the sector.
RWA perpetual futures on decentralized exchanges (DEXs) present the fastest route for crypto-native and international traders seeking exposure to traditional markets. At the same time, the acceleration of asset tokenization has led to more spot markets for a broader range of assets, fueling further demand for leveraged trading opportunities.
Mini dictionary: RWA (Real-World Assets), refers to tangible assets such as stocks, bonds, or commodities that have been tokenized for trading on blockchain platforms.
Sector remains in rapid development
RWA perpetual futures trading is still maturing, with users actively switching between platforms in search of better liquidity and opportunities. The sector currently operates with minimal regulatory oversight, offering traders near total anonymity and limited restrictions.
TradeXYZ maintains over $1.9 billion in open interest, according to public on-chain data, which forms a significant portion of the $7.8 billion open interest on Hyperliquid, a leading decentralized perpetual futures protocol. In comparison, Variational reports $2 billion in open interest across 550 markets, highlighting a rapid gain in volume in recent months. Estimates from other trackers place TradeXYZ’s open interest as high as $3.6 billion, though these figures can differ by methodology.
| Platform | Reported Open Interest | Markets |
|---|---|---|
| TradeXYZ | $1.9B to $3.6B | N/A |
| Variational | $2B | 550 |
Aggregate open interest for RWA perpetual futures is now estimated at $3.8 billion based on Dune Analytics analysis. Of this, around $1.9 billion serves as collateral within decentralized financial protocols. However, decentralized RWA perpetual futures still make up a small fraction relative to centralized markets, which account for over $215 billion in open interest, primarily focused on crypto-only contracts.
Perpetual futures open interest for RWA is currently far smaller than on centralized counterparts, but growth rates suggest an expanding role for decentralized platforms in leveraging real-world asset exposure.
As of 2026, RWA perpetual futures and tokenization technologies are primarily used by crypto-native market participants, with industry observers noting that full adoption by traditional finance institutions is still pending.
Liquidity and adoption trends
RWA perpetual futures have also become a key driver for fee production, showing high user engagement. Recent data shows 101,500 active daily addresses on Hyperliquid, with approximately 10,000 specifically trading RWA contracts. While this demonstrates strong growth, analysts expect even greater participation as more assets become tokenized and platforms mature.
In tokenization, Ethereum, Solana, and BNB Chain remain the top blockchain networks by value. Solana’s tokenized asset value jumped from $1 billion in 2025 to $4.37 billion by October, with much of that liquidity driven by XStocks trading.
Mini dictionary: Hyperliquid is a decentralized derivatives exchange protocol hosting perpetual futures for crypto and real-world assets, known for high liquidity and active user participation.
Solana’s expansion in tokenized value and Hyperliquid’s leading position in on-chain trading illustrate how new protocols are shaping the liquidity landscape for real-world asset derivatives.
On the Hyperliquid protocol, HIP-3 serves as a key hub for RWA perpetual futures, providing index and asset-specific trading, including assets like gold and oil, which have seen renewed activity in recent weeks.
