Reddit, a leading global forum for cryptocurrency discussion, has launched two dedicated homepage feeds, “For You” and “Following”, in a move designed to transform users’ experience in discovering and interacting with communities. The change, announced on October 28, represents a significant shift from Reddit’s previous approach and could directly affect the visibility of Bitcoin, altcoin, and decentralized finance (DeFi) communities among both new and existing audiences.
Major update to feed structure
The redesign introduces a clear distinction between content discovery and following activity. “For You” combines posts from communities a user is already part of with algorithmically selected recommendations from communities the user has not yet joined, based on users’ interests and activity.
On the other hand, “Following” delivers a tailored feed exclusively composed of posts from communities that the user has chosen to follow, without any content from outside sources. Users are free to toggle between these two sections, with Reddit’s platform set to remember which one was last accessed.
Previously, posts from unsubscribed or recommended communities appeared intermingled in Reddit’s home feed. Now, those suggestions are separated into their own designated area, removing them from the main personalized feed and potentially refining user control over content exposure.
Global rollout and platform strategy
The company has started rolling out these changes to users worldwide, both on desktop and mobile interfaces. Access to the new feeds is already available for some users, with full global implementation planned over the next several weeks.
Reddit described these updates as a foundational step in a broader strategy to facilitate discovery of relevant and engaging communities. The company has explicitly shifted focus away from its historical universal front page, r/popular, with CEO Steve Huffman indicating a move in late 2025 toward more personalized and algorithmic feed structures. Earlier, in April 2026, Reddit discontinued r/all, rerouting users to the customized Home feed instead.
Reddit, headquartered in San Francisco, is a prominent social media platform known for its vast array of interest-based communities, including an active cryptocurrency sector.
Mini dictionary: r/popular and r/all — These were Reddit’s default feeds aggregating trending content from across the platform, allowing users to browse top posts from a wide selection of communities without personal filtering. Their deprecation reflects Reddit’s shift toward algorithm-driven individual content recommendations.
User response and market impact
Initial responses from Reddit’s vast user base have been mixed. Some users favor the clearer division between recommended and followed content, arguing it enhances their control over what appears in their feed. Others have voiced concerns that the default setting now prioritizes algorithmic recommendations, which could diminish their sense of direct agency over the homepage selection.
Industry observers note that these changes could have substantial implications for the way crypto communities expand their reach. Since new content discovery is now partially determined by recommendations, projects discussed within Bitcoin, Ethereum, and DeFi subreddits may reach a broader or more selective audience, depending on the platform’s evolving algorithms.
| Feature | For You Feed | Following Feed |
|---|---|---|
| Content Source | Joined and recommended communities | Only joined communities |
| Algorithmic Recommendations | Included | Excluded |
| User Control | Switchable | Switchable |
| Main Goal | Community and content discovery | Focused following experience |
Reddit made its public market debut on the New York Stock Exchange in March 2024, listing under the ticker RDDT, reflecting its growing influence in both tech and digital asset spaces.
Reddit positions these new feeds as a pivotal move in shaping how users discover communities and content, aiming to make relevant posts more accessible while providing users greater flexibility in customizing their homepages.
