Ripple has significantly grown its presence in London, establishing its local office as the company’s largest international hub outside of the United States, according to Cassie Craddock, Managing Director for Ripple in the UK and Europe.
London’s rise as Ripple’s global center
Craddock described the rapid expansion of Ripple’s London operations over the past decade, highlighting a sharp increase in staffing and office space. When the current London office opened in 2018, Ripple occupied two floors with several unused desks. The office has since expanded to three floors, now operating beyond capacity, she stated on X.
She took part in a fireside chat at the British Residence in New York during the Swell conference, where she reflected on Ripple’s early strategic focus on the UK. Craddock emphasized the appeal of London’s strong capital markets, established legal framework, experienced regulatory environment, and access to top financial talent as key factors that influenced Ripple’s decision to anchor its international expansion in the city.
Despite these advantages, Craddock noted that regulatory uncertainty in recent years had limited Ripple’s ability to broaden relationships with major UK financial institutions.
Craddock shared that when Ripple relocated to its current London office in 2018, it started with two floors and many empty desks, but now occupies three floors and is operating over capacity, reflecting the company’s rapid growth in the city.
Partnerships and market developments
Ripple established its first London office in Canary Wharf in March 2016, responding to growing interest from European banks in blockchain and cross-border settlement technologies. Ripple incorporated its UK entity the following month as Ripple Europe Ltd., later renamed Ripple Markets UK Ltd. in August 2022.
The company has steadily expanded its connections with UK financial institutions. In April 2018, Santander launched its One Pay FX app, utilizing Ripple’s xCurrent technology for international payments. Ripple further strengthened its position in February 2022 by partnering with London-based Modulr to enhance cross-border payment solutions for the UK and Europe.
Ripple also contributed to blockchain research in the UK, pledging over £5 million to local universities through the University Blockchain Research Initiative in January 2026.
Regulatory milestones and tokenization projects
A major achievement for Ripple in the UK came on January 9, when the company received approval from the Financial Conduct Authority to operate as an Electronic Money Institution and a registered cryptoasset provider. These authorizations allow Ripple to extend regulated cross-border payment services to institutions in the UK.
In February, Ripple secured a new partnership with Aviva Investors to explore tokenization in the asset management industry. This collaboration led to the launch of a tokenized share class for the £22 billion Sterling Liquidity Fund on the XRP Ledger on October 26.
