Shiba Inu lead developer Shytoshi Kusama responded to Coinbase’s Onchain Summer campaign. Kusama claimed that the crypto exchange’s campaign initially resembled the ideas presented by the Shiba Inu community.
Quick Response from Kusama
Kusama responded to Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong’s post with the statement, “If this is not a shadow cat, it is an imitator.” On August 3rd, Armstrong mentioned the launch of the Base mainnet in a tweet and highlighted Coinbase’s upcoming Onchain Summer initiative.
Coinbase is preparing to release the Ethereum Layer-2 solution known as Base on August 9th. Armstrong recently confirmed that Base aims to provide tools for developing various Web3 products and to involve users in the blockchain ecosystem.
Similarity of Events Attracted Attention
Before the launch of Base, the Coinbase team organized a campaign called Onchain Summer. The initiative, scheduled to start on August 9th, received various reactions from the Shiba Inu community.
In its announcement, Coinbase stated that the celebration event was planned to coincide with the mainnet launch of Base and would span several weeks, including a live art, music, and gaming festival.
On July 15th, Shytoshi Kusama, the lead developer of Shiba Inu, launched the “Summer of Shibarium” campaign as a preparation phase for the mainnet launch of the Layer-2 scaling solution.
Shytoshi Kusama implied that Coinbase’s Onchain Summer initiative drew inspiration from Shiba Inu. However, the activities of both events significantly differ from each other.
Shibarium Summer event is currently ongoing, and as previously announced by the team, numerous releases are being introduced as part of the preparations for the Shibarium mainnet launch. The latest developments in the event include Shibarium Bridge and Shibarium YouTube launch.
Furthermore, Coinbase’s Base Layer-2 launch and Shiba Inu team’s designed Shibarium Layer-2 launch continue to generate excitement and curiosity within the Web3 community.
