Key Findings Shape the InvestigationMassive Cryptocurrency Holdings Frozen Abroad

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has taken a significant financial measure in an investigation involving Veysel Şahin’s illegal gambling activities. Based on financial analysis from MASAK, the file led to seizure decisions against various financial assets belonging to the suspect. As part of the process, it was noted that cryptocurrency valued at €460 million was frozen overseas, and efforts to return it to Turkey are ongoing.

Key Findings Shape the Investigation

The Investigation Bureau for Smuggling, Narcotics, and Economic Crimes at the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office is scrutinizing allegations of illegal betting operations and infrastructure support to these platforms. Financial analysis reports from MASAK have revealed strong indications of income derived from criminal activities. Consequently, the investigation has been intensified under the scope of opposition to Law 7258 and the laundering of assets originating from crime.

According to information obtained from prosecution sources, financial flow monitoring has identified numerous assets linked to illicit gains. Consequently, proceedings were initiated against moveable and immovable assets, company shares, partnership shares, and accounts in banks and financial institutions belonging to the suspect. The investigation also includes cryptocurrencies in the market and exchanges.

The requests in the investigation file were evaluated by the Magistrate’s Court, which approved the seizure decisions. This step aims to prevent the transfer and laundering of financial assets.

Massive Cryptocurrency Holdings Frozen Abroad

One of the investigation’s most striking developments is the large sum of cryptocurrency associated with the suspect. An investigation found approximately €460 million worth of cryptocurrency in accounts held by Veysel Şahin in globally operating firms. The accounts in question were frozen by the global company holding these assets.

After the freezing process, authorized units announced that the legal and technical process for returning the cryptocurrency to Turkey continued. The process, conducted within the framework of international cooperation, has ongoing communications with the relevant country authorities. The prosecution emphasized that necessary steps have been taken to include these cryptocurrencies in the investigation file.

A statement from the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office expressed that the investigation is being conducted meticulously in all aspects. Information released to the public highlights that cryptocurrencies are being effectively tracked in the fight against financial crimes.
