The price of Bitcoin over the years presents us with figures that allow for comparison. Seeing the numbers, many people can’t help but think about how far we’ve come. Some of us start to feel regret. The fundamental question on our tongues is often “why didn’t I buy Bitcoin back then?” But what’s past is past. From now on, we can only look back and observe the stages we’ve reached. Therefore, our article will show you how the price of Bitcoin has been shaped over the years.

How Has the Price of Bitcoin Changed Over the Years?

Let’s start with 2009, the first year Bitcoin appeared. At that time, Bitcoin’s value was virtually non-existent. Let’s consider that time as a baseline of zero. Then, let’s look at its value over the years. 2010 was the first year Bitcoin had a price. There was such a comically low price in front of us, the 2010 BTC price was $0.06. Imagine, you could buy 100 BTC with just $6.

You would have been an early investor in Bitcoin. 100 BTC would make you the owner of a $5 million fortune, wouldn’t it? You would have already passed into the phase of early retirement. Let’s move on to 2011. That year, Bitcoin closed with a 100x increase. In 2011, Bitcoin closed the year at $6.05. While you could buy 100 BTC for $6 the previous year, in 2011 you could only buy 1 BTC.

We come to 2012. Bitcoin closed the year 2012 at $8.46. The increase was around 40% compared to the previous year. Many investors might have thought at that time that it wouldn’t increase anymore. Perhaps they had adopted the idea that its price would now go down. However, 2013 stands before us as a different year.

Bitcoin from 2013 to 2018

Bitcoin’s price closed the year 2013 at $189.54. It completed the year with a 23-fold increase compared to the previous year. It was also starting to attract attention. In 2014, Bitcoin closed the year at $526.02. There was an approximate 3x increase. At that time, it was still numerically easy to make purchases like 1 BTC, 2 BTC, or 3 BTC.

2015 was a bear market year for Bitcoin. BTC closed that year at $272.36. Many investors likely made sales at a loss. Many people might have cooled off from this market. However, Bitcoin compensated for its losses from the previous year in 2016. Bitcoin’s price reached $567.27.

2017 was the year Bitcoin saw five-digit figures for the first time. However, due to the decline at the end of the year, BTC closed the year at $4,001.16. Many people experienced FOMO during this bull run in Bitcoin. They faced losses at the end of the year due to high entry prices. 2018 was a year marked by price ranges. BTC closed the year at $7,558.21.

Bitcoin Price from 2019 to the Present

2019 was a year marked by occasional increases and rises. Bitcoin closed the year at $7,196, while memories of the 2017 rally lingered. Everyone wondered whether Bitcoin would ever reach those levels again. It didn’t take long, as Bitcoin closed the year 2020 by matching its previous record at $29,000.

2021 was a different year for Bitcoin. According to Binance data, Bitcoin’s price reached up to $69,000 that year. The peak was now at these levels. BTC closed the year 2021 at $44,337. 2022 was a disaster year with the Terra/LUNA collapse and the FTX bankruptcy. Bitcoin closed the year at a figure of $16,537.4.

Finally, 2023 was a year of recovery for the Bitcoin price. BTC ended the past year at a price of $42,092.53. At the time of writing, it is at the level of $52,322.
