Bitcoin has surged nearly 22% over the past seven days, climbing from a recent low of $62,679 on August 17 to reach a high of $81,265 on Tuesday. This marks one of the fastest rallies in recent months, bolstering confidence among crypto investors and contributing to a sharp increase in the value of early holdings.

Satoshi Nakamoto’s Holdings Surge

The price surge has had a notable impact on the Bitcoin reserves believed to belong to Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin. According to Arkham Intelligence, Satoshi holds around 1.096 million BTC distributed across approximately 22,000 addresses. At the current market price of $78,280, these holdings are valued at $85.82 billion.

This figure is up significantly from earlier this month, when the same stash was worth $71 billion. At its peak yesterday, Satoshi’s holdings were briefly valued at $87 billion as Bitcoin crossed the $81,000 threshold, though the value fluctuates closely with the coin’s price.

While these coins have remained dormant for years, on-chain data consistently places Satoshi among the largest individual or institutional Bitcoin holders worldwide. The mystery surrounding these untouched coins continues to fuel speculation about potential market impact should they ever move.

At its peak yesterday, Satoshi Nakamoto’s estimated Bitcoin holdings reached $87 billion, though this value closely tracks the coin’s market price, now standing at $85.82 billion.

Movement From Dormant Wallets

Activity across early Bitcoin wallets has increased in recent weeks, with several long-dormant addresses shifting coins for the first time in years. These wallets date back to the earliest days of the Bitcoin network, including the era when Satoshi Nakamoto was last known to be active.

The most significant recent transfer involved a wallet holding 40 BTC, which had been inactive since it first received Bitcoin in May 2012. The address moved its coins for the first time after a period of roughly 14.2 years. Galaxy Research noted that the recipient of these funds was Boerse Stuttgart Digital, a German crypto custody and brokerage service. The origin of the transferred funds was not attributed to any known sender in the publicly available database.

When initially received in 2012, the 40 BTC were worth only about $200, with one Bitcoin valued at approximately $5. At the time of this month’s transaction, the coins were worth around $3.14 million. This represents a realized gain of roughly $3.16 million, which Galaxy Research calculated as a 1,535,911% increase from the original value.

Institutional Changes and Tokenization

Rapid institutional and technological changes are coinciding with Bitcoin’s latest rally. While historical Bitcoin wallets highlight early adoption, a new wave of investment is changing how major assets are accessed. Traditionally, market participation relied on brokers and intermediaries, but recent trends show Wall Street shifting toward Web3.

Investors have started using decentralized platforms such as 1stepSwap to acquire tokenized shares of leading U.S. companies, gold, and silver directly within their cryptocurrency wallets. The ability to tokenize real-world assets and automatically secure the best market prices has effectively removed the need for conventional middlemen, further integrating digital assets into mainstream finance.
