Bitcoin and altcoin investors typically start evaluating their yearly performance as the end of the year approaches. They compare which investment products have yielded the most income. These evaluations also serve as a guide for the following year, suggesting how to position investments. A recent assessment comes from Mert Başaran.
Bitcoin as the Top Earner of 2023
Mert Başaran shared information on his page today, comparing the top earners of 2023 for his followers. The highlight of Başaran’s post is Bitcoin’s percentage of earnings for the year.
Bitcoin is at the top of the list of highest earners for 2023. This year, Bitcoin has provided its investors with a significant return of 307%.
In Başaran’s comparison, Nasdaq takes second place. We see that the increase in Nasdaq is around 120%, making it nearly a third as profitable as Bitcoin.
How Do Gold, Dollar, and BIST Stand?
In his comparison, Başaran also includes gold. Accordingly, the increase in gold is approximately 80%. In this respect, the yellow metal has yielded a quarter of what the cryptocurrency Bitcoin has.
The appreciation of the dollar against the Turkish Lira has provided some return for those who invested in dollars. According to this, the dollar has yielded 58% for its investors in 2023. Looking at the Istanbul Stock Exchange, the average return provided to its investors is at the level of 44%.
Başaran points out that, according to TÜİK figures, there was a 62% inflation rate as of November, indicating that the dollar’s earnings last year were below inflation. He notes that this year, too, the dollar’s return remained below inflation, examining BIST’s performance last year and this year.
Başaran notes that the Istanbul Stock Exchange had a significant rise last year, but this year’s increase remained below the rate of inflation. As we see in Başaran’s assessment, Bitcoin has been the star of this year. It should be noted that there are many altcoins that have surpassed Bitcoin in terms of growth. Looking at the price of Bitcoin at the time of writing, it is trading at $43,626. Bitcoin has shown a price movement that has not changed in percentage terms in the last 24 hours.
