South Korea-based cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb is entering a structural transformation process in preparation for its public offering. The company aims to enhance operational efficiency by separating its digital asset trading activities from other service areas. Under the restructuring plan, Bithumb will conduct its operations under two distinct corporate entities, with the transformation expected to officially take effect on July 31, 2025.
Operational Split Before Public Offering
According to the announcement, Bithumb’s direct exchange services will be consolidated under a separate entity named “Bithumb Korea.” This structure will focus solely on cryptocurrency trading transactions. It is planned that Bithumb Korea will take center stage during the public offering process, with plans for the entity to be listed on the KOSDAQ. The possibility of listing on the NASDAQ in the US is considered secondary.
Other activities outside the exchange will be organized under the newly established “Bithumb A.” This new entity will encompass innovative areas such as venture capital investments, asset management, NFTs, and the metaverse. Additionally, Bithumb Investment, which manages the company’s strategic partnerships, will also be linked to this new structure.
New Corporate Structure and Financial Goals
Bithumb A will play a crucial role in the company’s future growth strategies. In this context, “Bithumb Partners,” previously focused on NFT and metaverse initiatives, will now shift towards traditional financial products such as stocks, bonds, and convertible securities. This will place the company’s investment portfolio on a more corporate and stable foundation.
Company officials aim to consolidate all financial marketing and investment processes within Bithumb A, establishing a more transparent and accountable structure. This framework is expected to strengthen relationships with both local and international stakeholders in the long run.
As of 2024, Bithumb has reported an operating profit of 130.8 billion won, indicating a significant recovery following the losses experienced the previous year. Experts point out that this financial improvement is a factor accelerating the company’s corporate transformation.
