Significant inflows and expanding institutional adoption

According to the analyst Ash Crypto, the most recent purchase was executed in several batches, each ranging from about 250 to 300 BTC. The Arkham tracking platform reported that this brings the total on-chain Bitcoin holdings of IBIT to roughly 742,000 BTC.

Spot Bitcoin ETFs in the United States collectively attracted $626 million in net inflows over the period, with BlackRock’s IBIT accounting for 76% of this figure. The continued buying by IBIT underscores ongoing institutional demand for direct Bitcoin exposure through regulated vehicles.

BlackRock’s cumulative Bitcoin acquisitions have propelled IBIT’s holdings to one of the industry’s largest on-chain portfolios, according to Arkham’s latest data.

The on-chain tracking also highlights a trend of linking blockchain-verified transactions with the activity in the regulated financial markets, providing increased transparency and accountability for institutional investors.

Shifts between Bitcoin and Ethereum holdings

Recent data indicates that BlackRock’s cryptocurrency portfolio has expanded by more than $3.7 billion since early July. However, there have been noticeable shifts between holdings: BlackRock’s IBIT decreased by 3,710 BTC, dropping from 743,190 to 749,480 BTC between July 1 and August 6, 2026, as cited by Arkham Intelligence.

During the same period, BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust ETF (ETHA) increased its Ethereum holdings by 196,340 ETH. This may suggest a reallocation of some capital from Bitcoin to Ethereum within BlackRock’s digital asset portfolios.

Simple access and regulated structure drive institutional demand

Spot Bitcoin ETFs such as IBIT are designed to grant investors exposure to Bitcoin via traditional brokerage accounts, eliminating the need to handle self-custody or manage private keys. BlackRock states that IBIT simplifies many operational and custody challenges that can arise with direct Bitcoin holdings, and can make such investments more attainable for institutional participants.

The ETF’s regulated custody framework and established market infrastructure are cited as drivers for large-scale investors who value operational safety and accessible financial products. Since launching its digital asset strategies, BlackRock has become a prominent asset manager in the global ETF market. Its foray into cryptocurrency has accelerated the adoption of digital asset products among traditional and institutional market participants.

Outlook for continued inflows

The focus remains on whether IBIT and other leading spot Bitcoin ETFs will maintain their recent pace of inflows. Ongoing interest from institutional investors could sustain upward pressure on spot Bitcoin price action, while slower inflows may ease that impact. Industry participants are monitoring both the creation and redemption of ETF shares and on-chain transfers to gauge future demand patterns.

For now, Arkham’s data shows IBIT’s on-chain holdings continue to grow, underpinning a concentration of institutional Bitcoin exposure in regulated financial instruments. Market observers suggest future ETF flows from BlackRock and its peers could determine the durability of institutional momentum in the spot Bitcoin market.

The key trend highlighted by Arkham Intelligence is the consolidating role of regulated ETFs as the preferred vehicle for institutional Bitcoin exposure, with flows providing a real-time gauge of institutional sentiment.
