Cardano‘s (ADA) founder Charles Hoskinson has reacted to a wave of criticism surrounding Google’s AI-based image generation tool, Gemini. The tech giant’s AI initiative drew backlash for producing inappropriate and offensive images, sparking debates on social media platforms. Notably, leaders from technology and other sectors have criticized Google’s Gemini for its text-to-image feature, calling it “racist”.
Google’s Gemini Faces “Racist” Critique
Charles Hoskinson penned a harsh critique from his personal account, labeling Google’s approach to AI and Gemini as “racist” and harmful to society. Expressing concerns over the radical politicization of human cognition and knowledge, Hoskinson emphasized the need for an ethical AI that respects different viewpoints.
Responding to a user’s comment, Hoskinson defended his stance by highlighting the universal impact of AI and the importance of addressing systemic biases.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk, owner of X, also recently joined the debate, criticizing Google for the way Gemini handles text-to-image capabilities. Musk described Google’s actions as “insane” and “anti-civilization”, further fueling discussions on AI ethics and accountability.
Google Apologizes
Indeed, following criticism from industry leaders and users, Google apologized for the controversial text-to-image feature. The tech giant’s misstep reignited debates about biases in AI algorithms and the need for strong ethical guidelines in AI development.
Among others, Republican leader Vivek Ramaswamy reiterated concerns about Google’s ideological echo chamber, emphasizing the company’s failure to address inherent biases in AI programming. Ramaswamy also stressed the importance of transparency and accountability in tech companies’ practices to prevent further bias in AI algorithms.
