Cryptocurrency world, unfortunately, has become a reality for scams. We try to inform about such activities from time to time to prevent investors in the field from being deceived. The latest incident was interestingly brought up by the founder of an altcoin. According to this, the scam activity was uncovered by Cardano‘s founder Charles Hoskinson. A scammer trying to impersonate Solana‘s founder Anatoly Yakovenko’s identity was thwarted by Hoskinson’s attention and skill.
Cardano Founder Foils Fraud Attempt
Cardano founder Hoskinson shared a recorded chat on his official X account, documenting a conversation with “Anatoly” who was directed to a website to request tokens. The conversation started with the impersonated Anatoly trying to ask Hoskinson for a 20% reward based on the TrueUSD balance in his wallet.
Instead of playing along with the scammer, Hoskinson interacted with the scammer by asking about the steps needed to receive the requested rewards.
Things Didn’t Go as the Scammer Planned
More interestingly, the fake Anatoly suggested Hoskinson click the “Claim Rewards” option and follow the subsequent instructions. However, things took an unexpected turn. Hoskinson’s questions exposed how inept the scammer was and revealed the entire offer was actually a scam. Eventually, the scammer gave up.
This incident is particularly noteworthy as it shows that even the accounts scammers try to impersonate can be verified, which is alarming. In the crypto ecosystem, such scam attempts increase concerns, while industry leaders and organizations run awareness campaigns to protect their communities. However, we still hear stories of people losing their money to scammers from time to time.
Always Beneficial to Inform the Crypto Community
The incident shared by Hoskinson is another important step in educating the crypto community and making them more aware of scammers. By asking the right questions and maintaining a skeptical mindset, we can uncover the real intentions of scammers.
Such efforts play a significant role in making the crypto world a safer place. Lastly, as seen above, Hoskinson recorded all correspondence with the scammer, providing us with a clear picture of the fraud.
