Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano $1, stated that Operation Chokepoint 2.0 represents an attack on the cryptocurrency industry. He pointed out that the operation has caused both financial and psychological harm, emphasizing the need for the industry to unite against such initiatives.
Hoskinson: “This Operation is a Global Attack”
In a statement on his X account, Hoskinson expressed that Operation Chokepoint 2.0 applies systematic pressures on cryptocurrency businesses. He noted, “This campaign has caused serious negative impacts worldwide. Businesses have been harassed, fined, and removed from platforms.”
Hoskinson further emphasized that the operation is not limited to the United States, stating that banks worldwide fear losing their ties to American banks. This fear has led banks to withdraw services related to crypto assets. He highlighted the devastating impact of this trend on the industry, advocating for new laws to combat such actions.
Industry Leaders Respond Collectively: “We Must Unite”
Hoskinson’s remarks align with those of other industry figures. Barbadian entrepreneur Gabriel Abed shared that First Citizens Caribbean Bank closed his account due to Bitcoin $99,019-related transactions. Abed remarked, “Banks fear the repercussions of their relationships with the U.S., which is why they closed my account.”
Ripple $2‘s CTO David Schwartz described these banking policies as indirect regulation, stating, “Not working with unwanted customers is easier than declaring it illegal.” Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong mentioned that they are filing FOIA requests to investigate the government’s role in the campaign. Armstrong emphasized that Operation Chokepoint 2.0 is unethical and harmful to the industry.
Hoskinson and other leaders stressed the importance of the sector acting together. They asserted that new regulations are essential to prevent the recurrence of such operations. Hoskinson’s comments have drawn the attention of many actors in the industry, who argue that legal measures must be taken to control this process.
The reactions against Operation Chokepoint 2.0 indicate that the industry is taking a firm stand on this issue.
