Sam Altman and his team have been preparing for this release for quite some time. Today, the much-anticipated browser was officially launched. The concept of a browser integrated with ChatGPT, belonging to OpenAI, has been in development for a long time. However, it is currently accessible only to macOS users. Versions for other operating systems are expected to be released soon. So, what does this new product signify for users?
ChatGPT Atlas
GPT communicates with users and establishes context by remembering key points from past conversations. This idea fuels the new browser concept. For instance, it can recall the websites you have visited and the activities you have undertaken there to present reports. When accessing a website, you will see capabilities for providing quick summaries or automating manual tasks. This improves productivity considerably.
The GPT messaging section can deliver results through live internet searches. It assists you within the browser, being at the core of your tasks. This functionality is quite beneficial in terms of practicality. Moreover, it facilitates your work while visiting websites, avoiding the loss of web traffic by offering results directly through messaging.
How Does It Work?
Initially, you open a tab and enter the address of the website you aim to visit.

In the second step, you ask your question via the familiar messaging panel that opens on the left. You can read and comprehend the content yourself, or GPT can interpret it for you. The primary issue here can be occasional misinterpretations, additions of personal input, or taking matters out of context, which might lead to misinformation. For known topics, identifying these issues is easier, but for unfamiliar subjects, maintaining your verification mechanism is crucial.

Another feature allows you to select a text while writing an email and ask GPT to improve it. This capability is somewhat familiar through tools like Copilot.

AI Agent
The main utility of AI agents is to automate and manage tasks you typically perform manually on websites. This capability is now available to GPT users without the need to load a local AI model or write agents. This makes the process more user-friendly.
With the mod introduced by Atlas, you can give it your evening meal menu and have it add ingredients to your shopping cart. If you wish, it can compare prices from online marketplaces or find suitable flights for a trip, make reservations, or calculate costs. Your imagination plays a significant role here.
There are security constraints in place. The AI Agent does not run code, download files, or install extensions on your browser. It also cannot access other applications on your computer. It pauses for confirmation on financial transactions, which may not work well for a trading bot. Restricting access to sensitive data and mimicking user actions on websites is possible.
