The international football organization FIFA announced that it will release a limited number of NFTs this week that will give owners the opportunity to watch the 2026 World Cup final. According to the announcement, initially, 100 NFTs will be offered for sale and will include the rarest collection items offering the chance to buy a ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup final. In the future, a total of 900 more NFTs will be offered for sale on the Polygon network and transactions can be carried out on OpenSea.
Noteworthy Announcement from FIFA
FIFA’s NFT collection was initially located on the Algorand network, but the team plans to switch to the Polygon network, a popular blockchain network among Web3 game projects, in the second stage. According to the details in the announcement, it was stated that future FIFA NFT collection launches will also be carried out via Polygon.
When FIFA first announced FIFA+ Collect last year, it was described as offering football fans around the world the opportunity to own unique NFT pieces at affordable prices. However, it is taking place due to the start of the FIFA Club World Cup 2023 in Saudi Arabia on December 12, despite the downturn in the NFT market.
NFT trading volumes are showing signs of recovery recently, however, it is still far below the levels during the last bull run, when NFT pieces from top collections like Bored Ape Yacht Club were sometimes sold for millions of dollars. Nevertheless, big brands continue to pursue opportunities to build communities and make money from them with NFT collection initiatives.
Fan Engagement Steps
FIFA also announced that Modex will take over the strategic management of the NFT collection platform, which has already released several football-branded collections. Modex CEO Francesco Abbate made the following statement in his announcement:
“NFT collections are increasing the ways fans interact with their favorite players, teams and games, and we are honored to support FIFA in achieving this goal.”
Using professional sports as a tool to connect with fans continues to be preferred by various companies operating in the blockchain and crypto field. Crypto exchange OKX has a sponsorship deal with Manchester City; while French sports game company Sorare has a partnership with the English Premier League.
