After the rise in the cryptocurrency market, good news continues to come. Accordingly, the cryptocurrency mining company Hive Digital Technologies announced that it has purchased a new property and data center in Boden, Sweden, and disclosed plans to expand the company’s global presence. According to the announcement made on November 27, the company reported taking over the ownership of a data center previously constructed for the European Union’s Horizon 2020 project.
Company Executive Emphasizes Green Energy
Hive Digital Technologies announced that the acquired property is close to the existing data center in Sweden and that they plan to further develop the included facility. It was reported that the facility will also host the latest generation ASIC servers and thereby increase Bitcoin production. Company executive Johanna Thornblad commented on the issue:
“The new data center will grow HIVE’s regional footprint while demonstrating an even stronger commitment to sustainable practices, environmental responsibility, and energy efficiency with the new generation green energy-supported data center.”
Hive has data center facilities in Canada, Sweden, and Iceland, preferring to use green energy for mining operations on cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, thanks to the infrastructure within the company. At the beginning of 2023, Hive removed the word “blockchain” from its official name to shift focus to opportunities in artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and graphics processing units.
Noteworthy Moves by Hive
The company announced plans to utilize its 38,000 Nvidia GPU computers to provide more efficient cloud services to small and medium-sized businesses against major service providers.
Hive CEO Aydın Kılıç and Chairman Frank Holmes, in an interview, stated that pivoting towards artificial intelligence does not diminish the company’s interest in Bitcoin and cryptocurrency mining. On the contrary, they emphasized that the company has been heavily involved in this field throughout the process, but blockchain and artificial intelligence can definitely coexist and will remain as the core pillars of Web3.
In September, Hive was among the mining companies that stood out in the industry by participating in the launch of the Digital Power Network (DPN), a community affiliated with the Chamber of Digital Commerce, to highlight the importance of Proof of Work (PoW) mining.
