Power Ledger (POWR), a blockchain-based platform launched in May 2016, aims to transform the global energy industry by enabling local communities to sell and distribute solar energy to neighbors without intermediaries. Power Ledger operates on two blockchain layers and uses two coins, Power Ledger (POWR) tokens and Sparkz, offering different functions. The platform itself utilizes the public Ethereum blockchain and a private consortium blockchain known as Ecochain.
POWR tokens allow application hosts and participants to use the platform itself. A host cannot access the platform without the correct amount of POWR. POWR is traded through the Ethereum Smart Bond exchange.
Additionally, Power Ledger has six products: Power Port, uGrid, xGrid, C6, C6+, and Asset Germinator. All these products provide different energy solutions through the use of blockchain. Users can buy and sell energy from the existing electricity grid through peer-to-peer transactions.
On the other hand, Power Ledger (POWR) was co-founded by Dr. Jemma Green, Dave Martin, John Bulich, and Jenni Conroy. Dr. Jemma Green is the executive chairman of Power Ledger and also a board member at Water Corporation and an advisory board member at Carbon Tracker.
