A recent announcement on McDonald’s official Instagram account excited investors. The marketing manager also shared the same post on their X account, leading investors to believe a token was minted on the Solana network. However, this is not the case.

The McDonald’s post announcing a token minted on the Solana network under the name Grimace was recently removed. Although there is no official announcement about the attack yet, the suspicious post revealed that concerns were justified. In a previous last-minute announcement, we mentioned that despite the marketing manager sharing this on their X account, it could be a hacking incident.
In the latest development, it was suggested that the price of SOL Coin could rise. Alternatively, the Instagram post could be labeled as a “hack case” and deleted, allowing Solana to continue its normal course.
WuBlockchain wrote on their X account:
“It is suspected that McDonald’s official Instagram account was hacked, and a Meme token “GRIMACE” was released on Solana. GRIMACE’s market value rose to $25 million within 30 minutes and then quickly dropped. McDonald’s marketing director Guillaume Huin also shared information about the Meme coin GRIMACE on X. Both posts were deleted.”
An address that made a purchase before the attackers’ post earned 3,372 SOL Coins worth $473,000 in 28 minutes.
