Joe Lubin, co-founder of Ethereum
$2,318 and CEO of ConsenSys, has initiated a significant transition from conventional sports betting to an Ethereum-centric treasury model as chairman of SharpLink Gaming, listed on NASDAQ in May. SharpLink Gaming currently manages a substantial repository of over 360,000 ETH, valued around 1.3 billion dollars. Following suit, former Bitcoin
$77,560 miner BitMine Immersion acquired 566,776 ETH, roughly worth 2.1 billion dollars, bolstering the trend within weeks. Both companies have engaged in staking their assets, a decision which coincided with ETH’s price surge from 1,450 dollars in April to 3,900 dollars by July.
Public Companies Swiftly Adopting Ethereum Treasury Models
SharpLink Gaming has fortified its balance sheet, opting for yield-generating Ethereum over passive cryptocurrencies. In a statement to Bloomberg, Lubin emphasized that staking income alongside programmable finance capabilities and emerging regulations is increasing institutional interest. As SharpLink Gaming transitioned to this strategy in May, BitMine Immersion quickly assimilated by acquiring substantial quantities of ETH.

With the acquired assets locked in staking pools, they yield passive income. The consequent rise in stock prices supports Ethereum’s valuation. Both companies have ventured beyond mere value retention, embracing a productive asset model.
Experts believe the example set by SharpLink Gaming and BitMine Immersion, along with their gains, will prompt other public companies to act. This movement is expected to enhance the adoption of the Ethereum treasury model.
Strategic Roles of Lubin and Buterin
While Lubin creates new corporate opportunities, Ethereum’s leading co-founder, Vitalik Buterin, accelerates the rollouts and sharding upgrades. The March 2025 Dencun update reduced ETH’s burn rate, yet Buterin maintains that the cryptocurrency retains the flexibility to support DeFi and real-world applications. Lubin’s enterprise strategy leverages this technical foundation, aiming to maximize economic efficiency. Consequently, both leaders are centralizing ETH within institutional portfolios, prioritizing scalability, productivity, and sustainable returns.
