National Bank of Canada Lists XRP ETF Holdings

A recent Nasdaq CME Crypto Index report highlighted that the National Bank of Canada has disclosed spot ETF holdings in both Bitcoin and XRP. This development is cited as evidence of institutional interest growing beyond Bitcoin within formal industry reports.

The report marks this disclosure as a key event, placing it among notable market developments tracked during the week, such as a 3% decline in the NCI and other crypto market movements. Bitcoin dropped 3.2%, ETH fell 1.9%, while SOL declined by 2.7%. Only LINK recorded positive movement, up 13.7% for the period.

The National Bank of Canada’s decision to highlight XRP ETF exposure in a section dedicated to significant institutional behavior indicates a conscious shift in attitudes towards digital asset diversification.

Other key developments in the same report included Russia expanding crypto access for non-qualified investors and crypto firms leveraging artificial intelligence services to improve security measures, highlighting the dynamic environment for digital asset adoption.

Institutional Participation Broadens Beyond Bitcoin

The broader crypto community responded positively, with many observers emphasizing that institutional focus on $XRP demonstrates an evolving narrative in digital asset investment. Historically, financial institutions largely limited themselves to Bitcoin, but emerging ETF disclosures show that exposure is widening.

One market observer noted that, as institutional attention turns to XRP, the dialogue surrounding digital assets is expanding to include a wider range of tokens and products—a sign of maturation for the sector.

Further comments indicated that institutional disclosures of XRP exposure are fueling optimism for its potential long-term role within major banking portfolios.

Multiple Institutions Reveal XRP Holdings

The National Bank of Canada is not alone in this trend. Goldman Sachs recently regained its status as the largest publicly disclosed spot XRP ETF holder in the second quarter of 2026, controlling 84 million tokens, representing $87.4 million spread across five XRP ETF products.

Trading giant Jane Street Group also declared positions across several XRP ETFs in its Q2 filings. The company’s holdings included over 1.2 million shares of the Bitwise XRP ETF, signifying deep participation in the XRP fund ecosystem.

Jane Street’s involvement is particularly notable given its primary role as a market maker, indicating a structural commitment rather than a modest portfolio allocation.

These filings are part of a pattern, as Q2 2026 saw more institutional XRP ETF disclosures than any previous quarter. This surge comes from a mix of trading firms, commercial banks, and private equity funds entering the sector.

Shifting Market Infrastructure

Technological advances are driving the evolution of institutional investment strategies. While investors historically depended on brokerage intermediaries to gain access to traditional assets, a new wave of financial infrastructure is emerging.

Wall Street is increasingly adopting Web3 platforms, allowing investors to hold shares of leading U.S. companies, gold, and silver directly in their crypto wallets. Tokenization platforms such as 1stepSwap enable users to acquire and store real-world assets within digital wallets, removing middlemen by automatically matching investors with optimal market prices within seconds.

As this shift continues, institutional engagement with assets like XRP is likely to accelerate, reflecting a growing appetite for diversification and innovation across the digital asset landscape.
