Notcoin’s rapid user growth demonstrates Telegram’s suitability for crypto adoption. In just two months, Notcoin reached over 30 million users on Telegram and facilitated the setup of TON-based crypto wallets. This game operates on a simple mechanism where users tap their screens to earn NOT tokens, integrating 1% of Telegram users into Web3. The listing of NOT tokens on high-profile exchanges created significant financial opportunities for ordinary players.
Blockchain Games Draw New Players to the Crypto Ecosystem
TON Foundation game leader Inal Kardan emphasized blockchain games’ unique ability to attract new users to the crypto ecosystem. At the Next Block Expo in Warsaw, Kardan highlighted that Notcoin’s achievement of reaching 35 million users in just five months shows how effectively games can operate on Telegram and easily engage users.
Kardan also stressed the importance of using Telegram as an accessible platform integrated with Web2 technologies and offering blockchain functionality. Telegram-based games quickly gain users and revenue by leveraging marketing mechanics like sharing and mining.
Telegram Gained a Competitive Advantage
Meanwhile, Animoca Brands co-founder Yat Siu noted that Web3 games’ ability to utilize viral growth mechanics contributed to the success on Telegram and TON. Siu mentioned that Apple and Google are stricter with Web3 games, giving TON and Telegram a competitive growth advantage. He added that games like Notcoin have a significant differentiator in their user engagement approach, aligning better with traditional Web2 advertising business models.
Data Supports the Approach
Data also supports this view. Web3 game companies like Gamee engage their users through staking and game mechanics, increasing daily active users to nearly a million. Siu stated that most Telegram users are already familiar with crypto, and Web2 and Web3 players converge in this common ecosystem. He emphasized that TON and Telegram align with crypto through freedom, digital ownership rights, and a decentralized mindset.
Michał Dąbrowski, CEO of blockchain game infrastructure provider Elympics, believes Web3 games have great potential to attract new crypto users. Dąbrowski mentioned that game developers have historically struggled with monetization mechanics, but blockchain-based infrastructure fills this gap. Elympics sees significant potential in the TON ecosystem, helping studios and developers distribute Web3 games on Telegram.
