Session Details and Witness List

Separate sessions will be conducted by the Senate and the House, featuring expert witnesses from various organizations. In addition to Grewal, testimonies will be heard from Nathan McCauley, founder of Anchorage Digital, Austin Campbell, CEO of WSPN, and other professionals. Lawmakers noted that the sessions would examine past efforts to restrict the cryptocurrency sector’s access to banking services.

Discrimination in Banking

In recent weeks, Coinbase has questioned the role of regulatory institutions in light of documents that emerged regarding the U.S. FDIC. These documents suggest that the FDIC instructed banks to limit financial services to the cryptocurrency sector. Coinbase’s legal team is currently conducting a thorough examination of these developments, and detailed information is expected to be shared during the session.

The session will also raise issues related to restrictive measures being attempted in various areas of the sector, as highlighted by testimony from Anchorage Digital and Fred Thiel. Discussions will focus on the impacts of legal processes and regulations on the industry, with an emphasis on monitoring existing practices.

Grewal stated that the purpose of the lawmakers’ oversight meeting is to review past efforts to exclude the cryptocurrency sector from banking services.

There have been indications among House members that the scope of the session may expand and additional witnesses could be added. Many industry figures agree on the necessity of monitoring the proposed regulatory steps.

The session could provide a comprehensive discussion platform for monitoring regulations in the sector and evaluating the impacts of existing restrictive measures. The testimonies of the identified witnesses may offer data for future regulations and highlight attempts to isolate the cryptocurrency sector from the financial system.
