Blockchain data has highlighted a series of significant minting and redemption transactions involving RLUSD in the past week. On September 8, observers recorded a burn of 10 million RLUSD, shortly followed by a mint of approximately 14.39 million RLUSD.
One day earlier, on September 7, 18 million RLUSD was minted on Ethereum. Additional activity included the minting of 20 million RLUSD on September 4 and 16 million RLUSD the day before.
RLUSD’s issuance and burning reflect institutional demand, with tokens being destroyed when customers redeem their holdings. Such activity is a regular occurrence among asset-backed stablecoins and does not typically indicate negative sentiment toward the product.
RLUSD market capitalization sees rapid growth
Despite the burn activity, RLUSD’s circulating supply remains robust within the stablecoin market. On September 10, CoinGecko reported RLUSD with a market capitalization of about $2.42 billion. For context, this represents a significant increase from the approximately $1.76 billion reported on August 18.
If this expansion continues, RLUSD could soon overtake other major stablecoins such as PayPal USD (PYUSD) in terms of total market capitalization.
