Ripple has allocated $300,000 in emergency aid to humanitarian organizations responding to devastating floods in Nepal and Tibet, with the funds directed to World Central Kitchen and Mercy Corps. The funding aims to provide urgent support for meals, safe drinking water, and sanitation for communities cut off by the disaster.

Emergency assistance targets hardest-hit areas

After floods triggered by a Himalayan glacier collapse on August 26 swept through valleys across Nepal and Tibet, World Central Kitchen activated local restaurant partners in Rasuwa and Nuwakot to deliver hot meals to survivors. The organization’s relief teams are reinforcing meal operations as highways and transportation links remain severely damaged.

Mercy Corps, with more than two decades of experience in Nepal, is coordinating with local authorities and aid partners to assess community needs. Their operations focus not only on food and water, but also on restoring sanitation infrastructure and supporting long-term recovery efforts for displaced residents.

Ripple has extended support to World Central Kitchen and Mercy Corps, providing $300,000 in funding to deliver meals, clean water, and crucial hygiene services in areas where floods destroyed transport and utility networks.

UNICEF reported that at least 17,000 children have been affected by the floods, with 18 schools destroyed and another 20 damaged in Nepal alone. Health facilities have also suffered, increasing the urgency for clean water and disease prevention, while the agency calls for $17.2 million to stabilize children’s health, nutrition, and safety.

Ongoing partnerships enable rapid deployment

Ripple’s contribution continues its established partnerships with both aid organizations. The company has backed World Central Kitchen since 2020, enabling pilot programs that used Ripple Payments and the RLUSD stablecoin to speed up local restaurant payments during past relief efforts. According to Ripple, this approach can settle emergency funds in hours instead of days.

Mercy Corps has also partnered with Ripple on projects, including a drought insurance pilot in Kenya using RLUSD and satellite data to automate aid payouts. While that pilot did not trigger payments due to favorable climate conditions, it demonstrated how blockchain solutions can enable faster, data-driven emergency response before families experience critical losses.

Despite these advances, the Nepal and Tibet flooding has strained access along river corridors, with more than 600 reported deaths and over 2,000 people missing as of August 29. Rescue teams face delays due to destroyed roads, power lines, and communication infrastructure.

UNICEF confirmed it is distributing hygiene kits, newborn supplies, therapeutic foods, and supporting family reunification and temporary educational spaces in response to the multifaceted crisis in flood-hit areas, while emphasizing the centrality of clean water and sanitation after the collapse of water systems.

World Central Kitchen combines localized kitchens and suppliers to bypass blocked highways, ensuring meal delivery routes remain operational even as traditional supply chains are cut off. Mercy Corps is assessing gaps in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services as recovery operations scale up.

Tech-optimized aid for disaster recovery

In situations where factors such as sudden Federal Reserve decisions or unexpected listings of digital assets can instantly shift the market landscape, investors often face delays and risks by juggling multiple platforms for data, news, and portfolio tracking. Many traders are now adopting privacy-first tools like CryptoAppsy to centralize their workflow; this platform enables users to access live charts, coin-specific news, macroeconomic updates, and smart price alerts on a unified interface without needing to register an account.

Ripple has not specified how the $300,000 grant will be divided or the timeline for disbursement, but named hot meals, drinking water, and sanitation as its top-funded priorities alongside its two partner organizations. Recovery efforts are ongoing as authorities continue search, rescue, and infrastructure rebuilding across the affected valleys.
