In recent weeks, airdrop events in blockchain ecosystems have enabled many users to make significant gains, while some processes related to these events have caused much debate. The Ethereum Layer-2 network Starknet team has opened a community vote regarding the transition of major updates from the testnet network to the mainnet network in Starknet v0.13.0 version. Despite hints from the team about a potential airdrop, the lack of any development on this matter has led to discussions within the crypto community.
Starknet Team Takes Noteworthy Step
Updates regarding the process will facilitate payment of transaction fees with the protocol’s native token, STRK, in addition to Ethereum, which was previously accepted. The STRK token has not yet been released, and it is still unclear how the voting will affect this process. According to the protocol’s social media account, community members will be able to express their opinions and use their votes at the Starknet Governance Center from January 4 to January 8, helping to shape the developments of the process.
While some community members seem confused about how the voting could take place before the STRK airdrop event, the voting is based on delegates rather than token holders. Throughout the past year, the Starknet Foundation has distributed voting rights to a broad group of independent delegates and shared the following statement:
“We encourage all members of the Starknet community to join the discussion and share their opinions on the proposed update in the community forum.”
Details on the Starknet Airdrop
While the Starknet team continued their work on the airdrop event in the past months, they ignited a major debate by launching their official airdrop webpage and Starknet Governance page. Although there were claims that the addresses to these websites were fake, the use of the official Starknet domain proved that the pages were genuine.
Following this development, the Starknet team shared a post through X, announcing that the necessary information for the airdrop event was obtained from the ecosystem, officially starting the airdrop process. During this period, the team’s silence led to a decrease in the number of transactions within the Starknet ecosystem and a significant drop in the total value locked (TVL).
