Noteworthy developments in the cryptocurrency market continue to make headlines. Accordingly, Starknet, a decentralized Layer-2 scaling solution built on Ethereum, is preparing to hold its first staking vote on the mainnet for local STRK token holders. The vote, planned for September, will introduce a staking mechanism designed to provide more decentralization and improve network functions.
Exciting Development on the Starknet Front
Although the exact date of the staking launch has not yet been determined, it is expected to take place in October, depending on the outcome of the vote. The upcoming vote will focus on introducing two aspects of the staking mechanism on Starknet, a development investors have been anticipating since it was previously discussed in tokenomics.
Firstly, it will be a minted mechanism that will dictate the creation and distribution of new tokens within the Starknet ecosystem and centralize the participation of validators and delegators. The second aspect involves a protocol for adjusting the parameters of the minting mechanism over time to ensure balance and sustainability.
Details on the Matter
The voting process is structured to give STRK holders enough time to make informed decisions through a test voting process. The test voting period is planned to start on September 2 and last until September 4, providing all participants with time to learn the process on the testnet.
The main vote will follow this test phase and take place from September 9-13. This will give STRK holders a five-day window for the official staking vote. On July 10, at EthCC, StarWare CEO Eli Ben-Sasson announced the company’s plans to launch staking through a Starknet Improvement Proposal (SNIP) by the end of 2024.
With the community’s approval of the SNIP, the Starknet staking process is expected to start in October, according to the latest development on August 20. Ben-Sasson stated on July 10 that stakers would gradually take on more responsibilities, and the corresponding rewards would be determined based on the performance of these responsibilities.
