Strategy, led by Michael Saylor, revealed Tuesday that it made no Bitcoin transactions from August 31 to September 7, opting instead to focus on share buybacks and strengthening its balance sheet. Over the same period, the company spent $176.3 million repurchasing STRC preferred stock and doubled the size of its Digital Credit Securities Repurchase Program from $1 billion to $2 billion.

Strive Expands Bitcoin Holdings

Strive, meanwhile, announced the purchase of 1,375 BTC at an average price of $79,281, translating to an investment of approximately $109 million. This latest acquisition boosted Strive’s total holdings from 23,156 BTC to 24,531 BTC, demonstrating a commitment to ongoing accumulation.

This purchase followed an earlier addition of 1,800 BTC at a slightly higher average price, bringing Strive’s activities into sharp contrast with Strategy’s current tactical shift. Following these moves, Strive’s cash and equivalents also rose from $183.5 million to $202.6 million.

Strive has recently challenged Strategy’s pace of acquisition. Earlier this year, in June, Strive acquired $50 million worth of Bitcoin in a single week, surpassing Strategy’s purchases during the same period. Despite these efforts, Strive’s total holdings remain substantially smaller, with Strategy holding nearly 34 times more Bitcoin.

Strategy Prioritizes Securities Buybacks

While Strategy maintains the largest corporate Bitcoin reserve, its treasury model now involves more nuanced capital management than simple accumulation. The company last increased its Bitcoin position with the purchase of 4,603 BTC for $369.7 million during the week ending August 30 after previously selling 6,916 BTC in the summer.

In its latest moves, Strategy repurchased 1,810,885 STRC shares for $176.3 million, following a previous buyback of 1.56 million shares for $151.8 million. The company now retains $1.19 billion in repurchase authorization for its expanded Digital Credit Securities Repurchase Program, alongside a $1 billion cap for MSTR common shares.

At the close of September 7, Strategy’s corporate treasury included 845,050 BTC, purchased for roughly $63.73 billion at an average price of $75,412 per Bitcoin. The company also held $5.10 billion in USD Reserve and $1.44 billion in USD cash, providing flexibility for future asset purchases or capital management.

The contrast in corporate treasury strategies between Strive and Strategy underscores a significant divergence: Strive continues to add to its Bitcoin positions while Strategy pivots to managing preferred securities and other assets on its balance sheet. Priorities have clearly shifted in both companies, with Strive seizing new BTC at current market rates as Strategy repurchases shares and enhances financial programs for greater flexibility.

Bitcoin Price Slides Below Recent Acquisition Levels

Bitcoin traded between $78,400 and $78,500 on Tuesday, dipping below $80,000 amid investor caution ahead of the Federal Reserve’s September 16 meeting. This current price leaves BTC only slightly above Strategy’s aggregate purchase average of $75,412 but below Strive’s latest acquisition cost of $79,281.

Amid this fluctuation near key support levels, industry attention has turned to the evolving methods institutions use to manage digital and real-world assets. While traditional markets rely on complex brokers, a massive shift is happening: Wall Street is moving to Web3. Investors are now using platforms like 1stepSwap to hold shares of major U.S. companies, gold, and silver directly in their crypto wallets. By tokenizing Real-World Assets and automatically finding the best market prices in seconds, these technologies aim to eliminate financial intermediaries.

With the gap between large institutional buyers’ strategies widening, the next few weeks may see further divergence as market conditions and institutional priorities evolve in response to macroeconomic events and regulatory expectations.
