According to allegations, former US President Donald Trump has emerged as a significant investor in the cryptocurrency world, with a substantial Ethereum portfolio and significant earnings from NFT sales. This new statement came as a surprise due to Trump’s previous negative comments about digital currencies. The $2.8 million in Trump’s Ethereum wallet is significantly larger than the amount disclosed in the April 14th filing, which ranged from $250,000 to $500,000.
Distinguished Licensing Fee
Allegedly, the latest financial disclosure documents submitted to the Government Ethics Office revealed that Trump has an Ethereum wallet holding cryptocurrency worth $2.8 million. These findings were brought to light by the Washington-based ethics watchdog Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) and shared on social media.
Additionally, the disclosed records revealed that Trump’s NFT venture has been quite lucrative. Allegedly, the former US President earned approximately $4.9 million in licensing fees from an NFT collection he launched to secure a return to the White House in the 2024 elections, following his defeat to current US President Joe Biden in 2020.
Trump Allegedly a Whale
With these newly discovered assets, Trump’s position in the crypto world now classifies him as a “whale,” a term used for individuals holding significant amounts of a particular cryptocurrency. This classification is quite ironic considering Trump’s past criticisms of digital currencies as “scams” and “very dangerous.”
In an interview in December 2021, Trump expressed a preference for the stability of the US dollar, stating, “I never liked cryptocurrency because I prefer having the dollar.” His views sharply contrast with those of his Republican colleagues who support cryptocurrency legislation in the industry.
Trump’s differing views on cryptocurrency from his rivals, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and another presidential candidate who strongly advocates for strengthening America’s crypto sector in the 2024 primaries, are noteworthy.
