SwissBorg, a leading crypto asset management platform based in Switzerland, has announced the immediate listing of Zcash and Litecoin for its European customers. The company attributed this decision to a sharp increase in customer searches for both coins, allowing users to instantly swap Zcash and Litecoin against 12 fiat currencies and over 400 digital assets.

Rising demand and regulatory context

SwissBorg’s move comes as the popularity of Zcash surges, coinciding with a significant rally for the privacy-focused cryptocurrency. In just one week, Zcash climbed 45%, breaking the $1,000 mark amid renewed speculation around possible spot Zcash ETFs and improved sentiment due to recent changes in its issuance model. Market analysts observed that this resurgence also followed a wave of short liquidations, creating bullish momentum for the coin.

Unlike Monero, whose privacy features are always active, Zcash offers both transparent and shielded transaction types. This flexibility has enabled SwissBorg—alongside industry majors in Europe such as Coinbase, Kraken, and Bitpanda—to limit activity exclusively to transparent Zcash addresses. In doing so, these platforms maintain compliance with prevailing anti-money laundering rules and financial monitoring obligations in the EU.

Mini dictionary: SwissBorg is a Switzerland-based cryptocurrency platform offering portfolio management and exchange services for crypto investors, operating under Swiss and EU regulations.

Zcash’s listing on SwissBorg coincided with its largest single-week rally in nearly ten years, helped by resolved tokenomics issues and renewed optimism among investors.

Looming EU ban for privacy coins

Despite the successful European listing, both Zcash and Litecoin face a strict regulatory deadline. Article 79 of the European Union’s new Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR) is set to become enforceable on July 10, 2027. From that date, all EU-licensed exchanges and custodians will be barred from servicing cryptocurrencies with active anonymization features.

While this rule will make it illegal for regulated platforms to offer such privacy-focused coins, the regulation does not extend to personal, noncustodial wallets or to individual peer-to-peer transactions. EU residents will still be able to own Zcash or transfer it directly, so long as they do not trade on regulated platforms after the enforcement date.

For SwissBorg, the current listing represents both a response to customer demand and a time-sensitive market opportunity. With less than one year remaining before regulatory restrictions come into force, the company made clear that access to Zcash and similar assets will soon be restricted across all licensed European platforms.

Strategic timing and industry trends

This move echoes a broader trend among European exchanges, which have accelerated support for select privacy coins ahead of the incoming ban. By relying exclusively on transparent Zcash addresses, SwissBorg and its peers aim to serve demand without breaching compliance obligations.

Analysts expect continued volatility in Zcash and related tokens until the regulatory window closes. The mixture of regulatory clarity and speculative interest has brought fresh attention to privacy protocols, pushing them into the spotlight across the continent.

SwissBorg’s decision has positioned it at the forefront of this transitional period, reaffirming its commitment to servicing user demand while navigating evolving legal landscapes.

SwissBorg provided the market with Zcash and Litecoin at the peak of public interest, but reminded users that the opportunity window in the EU is closing quickly due to impending AMLR rules.
