The identity of the suspect detained after the armed incident at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner has come into focus. According to information from CNN, investigators have identified the man as Cole Allen, a 31-year-old resident of Torrance, California.
Suspect under scrutiny
Authorities reported that Allen was neutralized while armed near the location of the dinner, where U.S. President Donald Trump and numerous high-profile figures were present. Following the incident, security measures in the area were heightened as officials confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
Public records reveal Allen works part-time as an instructor at C2 Education, a company specializing in test preparation and tutoring services. Records also indicate Allen was named teacher of the month at C2 Education in December 2024.
A key area of interest in the investigation has become Allen’s background in education and technology.
Caltech graduate and game developer
Allen’s academic credentials have drawn notable attention. He earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the California Institute of Technology in 2017 and later pursued a master’s in computer engineering at California State University, Dominguez Hills.
During his university years, Allen attracted local media coverage for designing an emergency braking system for wheelchairs, highlighting his involvement in engineering and product development.
It has also been reported that Allen worked as a game developer. He released his independent game “Boredom” on Steam and is reportedly working on a follow-up project in the same genre.
Political donation record in the file
According to Federal Election Commission records, Allen donated $25 to Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign in October 2024. Officials noted, however, that this information alone is not seen as determinative regarding the motive for the incident.
Authorities are investigating whether Allen acted alone, how he arrived at the scene, and what might have motivated his attempted attack. The specific charges are expected to become clear as the investigation progresses.
The incident has renewed security concerns at high-profile Washington events. Public discussion has also focused on the suspect’s background in education, engineering, and game development, with these details becoming focal points in media coverage.
