President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign team is looking for a meme culture expert to win over Gen Z voters. The Biden for President (BFP) campaign announced a job opening for a Partnership Manager responsible for launching and managing daily operations to engage with the internet’s best content and meme pages.
Biden Takes Noticeable Step
Biden’s campaign will pay the Delaware-based meme manager in Wilmington between $65,000 and $85,000 annually, which is slightly above the average salary for a digital marketer in the U.S., according to Indeed. According to the job description, Biden’s main task will be managing relationships with digital media companies, podcast publishers, and meme pages across various social media platforms.
Biden’s team has previously engaged with memes; in early 2022, they adopted the Dark Brandon laser eyes meme to portray the 81-year-old president as internet-savvy.
In February, Seth Meyers asked Biden about the Dark Brandon meme on the Late Night show. President Biden revealed that he was very amused by the question. Biden again donned his sunglasses and referenced this persona to the cheers of the audience at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in April.
Crypto Space and the U.S.
This move appears to be the latest effort by the oldest U.S. president to appeal to younger voters. Many Democratic presidential candidates have seemingly reversed their stance on crypto after Donald Trump advocated for cryptocurrencies to gather votes.
On the other side of the political spectrum, Trump is no stranger to memes. His August 2023 mugshot went viral after being processed at Fulton County Jail for his fourth indictment. The campaign team capitalized on this by selling merchandise featuring the image and releasing an NFT collection named MugShot in December. In early May, the Trump-themed memecoin MAGA surged following pro-crypto comments.
